trading a bust 1st overall pick for nothing and signing one of the worst dmen in the league this after trading hall for larsson and a first and second rounder for reinhart...
- Bigern4MVP

so if hes a bust-then trading for nothing is about what hes worth, no?

or did you not think that one through before you posted.........

this

yak asked for a trade ages ago. maybe as early as his second season.

so its bs that we wouldnt try and wait. thats exactly what we did. and his value wasnt going up because he couldnt get it done here.

yeah, its abit of a kick in the teeth to lose a former first overall for that return, but i just watched him get passed on the depth chart by castoff versteeg and undersized ncaa guy cagiulla. pitlick outplayed him too. this doesnt hurt us at all

- HB77

Not one bit and before his fanboys come in here and say "he didnt get a chance to play with anyone" I say thats BS......he was playing with McDavid and its not like he lit up the score sheet with a bunch of goals (screw assists he was drafted to score)...if you cant score goals with McDavid feeding you then I dunno what to say...plus im sure he got time with Hall and Nuge...not sure if he got a chance with Drai...either way he did nothing when given the chance

It really changes nothing if anything it opens the door for someone else to step into that spot...not like there are big shoes to fill...I just love this idea that some out there still think Yak is something

hes a hard worker, so i dont hate the kid. hes just a total moron that cant think the game.

its not impossible he becomes effective in the right situation, but yeah- i wont miss him at all

im more happy to see any and all of versteeg, caggiulla, pitlick, puljujarvi play where yak wouldve

If he gets the Jultz treatment with the Blues then maybe they can slowly make something of him...he certainly wont get built back up over night....you are right the work ethic is there but thats about it....not good for a #1 overall draft pick

McDavid for Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, $15 million in cash, and the Kings' first-round draft picks in 1989, 1991 and 1993....wait this seems familiar....

An embarrassment of riches and high in draft picks lead to wasting Nail Yakapov. If he had been the only #1 draft pick they had gotten, he would have been developed properly. From an outsider watching, any time he got a little bit of confidence and started to do well offensively, the Oilers would pull him off that line or let the centre Derek Roy just leave. When the only offensively talented centre that they let him have any time with was Leon Draistaidl, and he essentially was a rookie just trying to cut his teeth in trying to find his place in the NHL. Most teams that draft a high offensive player, would have put him in the best position to succeed as a high offensive player. To his credit, Yak never took his puck and went to the KHL like most Russian players do. When he scores 30 plus goals in St. Louis this year, the oilers and oiler fans should complain about nothing as they did it to themselves.
