And yet 4 months ago you would have gone ballistic if anyone spitballed hypotheticals like "Hall for Larsson"or "Yak for a conditional 2nd to make cap room for Kris Russell."
I will grant you that the team has been converted from rosterbation fodder that can't crack 75 points into merely a below-average NHL team with upside. - Snowblind
I certainly wouldntve "went ballistic "
You want it to be so of course. But it's not.
Yaks value 4 months ago was no different. In fact I heard he couldn't even fetch a 3rd at the td last year. So it may have even went up. Especially considering saving his entire salary
One could look at it like chiarelli is just trying to stay a float but that's not it at all. Try more like shovelling buckets of water out of an old sinking boat. Not sure why the return on yak is a surprise and makes me think that still some people excpected more. The fact is yak is damaged goods, that's what he's viewed as. I like the kid, still think there's a good player there somewhere in right situation but as of today he's still damaged goods. And when you take a chance on damaged goods you pay an excellent price for it like you would in a electronic store. Might take some extra time and money to make the best out of it or make it work but initially it's a heck of a deal. I don't see it different for pro altheletes.
Yak was damaged before chiarelli. Argument can be made on why yak is damaged or if PC did anything to help out that situation but reality is if you take out yaks play, you really aren't missing much, sadly. Besides, would you rather continue to experiment with yak at his price or go with someone cheaper or not as a reliability. Even making way for Puljujarvi makes sense wether it be now or in between next yr.
PC has made some good moves and some not so good moves but when your first task on the job is to play janitor, well no one looks good as a janitor.....sorry to all the janitors out there! Lol
End of the day I think this team is better suited for div now than one yr ago and if results end up showing that then all this becomes ok or not talked about.
Realistically there was a lot of negativity built up over the past 2-10 years and Chia has made a lot of changes.
I think there has been enough culture change and with you guys striking lightening with McDavid that tis team is finally trending in the right direction.
Which makes me happy as punch cause I now I can totally Troll you guys without feeling somewhat of a jack ass!
Don't kid yourself and stop patronizing Oiler fans. This trade was sh!t. Chiarelli is a moron who sucks. He should have traded Yak to Boston, might've done better with that knucklehead Sweeney. Don't get me wrong, I love this.
Essentially, Oilers have decided to dismantle the old regime by giving away their previous 1st overall picks. That has to hurt.
BTW why are the quotes not working? This is ruinous.
He sure keeps it classy. St Louis is going to love him. - Mr.Bobby
I notice a lot of Europeans say stupid sh1t like that... Like when Columbus passed on Puljujarvi, his family was on camera bad-mouthing Columbus as soon as they saw him again
I really hope these off season moves work out for the Oil. As someone who doesn't watch them play much, this feels a lot like some of the garbage moves the Leafs have made that doomed the team to mediocrity, and have us fans still cursing former management.
Once upon a time someone thought Stempniak was worth Steen +. I'm not saying that would have made them a cup winner, but it would have been interesting to see Phil ride shotgun with a talented 2-way forward.. oh, wait.
So the best case scenario that I see in this trade is that we might be getting a 3rd liner that is a two-way power forward (6'2'' as well and uses his size advantage), has leadership qualities, good overall offensive ability (point per game in the WHL), and whose handedness is right. The only bad thing is that he needs to improve on his skating. All along with a possible 2nd rounder.
So you can possibly see this as a 3rd liner + 2nd if all goes well on our own end. Not bad at all if all goes well. But the long term outlook of this trade might not begin to reveal itself until we hit Y3+.
As for the ECHL prospect stereotype, just remember that teams do have damn good prospects at that level of hockey as well. STL is stacked in prospects, so that might be a reason as to why this guy is in the ECHL.
I for one think that he will be sent to the AHL very shorty after the trade is announced officially (Chia makes the formal statement). He will probably see 1-2 years of AHL action before he even laces up for an NHL game.
Honestly Yak never lived up to the hype. He has tremendous skill but simply put didn't have the attitude to be successful. This wears down on a team and other teams notice. That's why Yak's value was close to nothing. You don't trade someone with value only for nothing, even when player's request trades. Yak might be able to surprise on a better team. For oilers, not chagrin, he wasn't worth to keep around.
this is an Oilers thread, Flames fans should remember when the Blues stole Brett Hull from them. Thank you. he did not even like you enough to call it his own country. hence the reason he playd for the USA every time - BluesDroogie
Actually Hull wasn't good enough to make team Canada the first go around but the USA offered him a roster spot. So, he played there. And back in the day, IIHF rules stated that once you play in an international team, that is the only team you are ever eligible to play for. But you spin it how you like it.

I didn't even want to acknowledge this but I will just so all the other fans don't think us oiler fans expect this guy to ever play in the NHL. The guy is 22 and he's played 1 AHL game. He's not even putting decent numbers in the ECHL but yup we got a third liner plus the pick. Good post!
