Im guessing the rumors to Chicago were probably involving a roster player going both ways. With this deal you guys were able to sign Russell. Overpaid a bit but its a 1 year deal so its not that bad.
- BluesDroogie

Chicago deal was for a couple minor leaguers per the rumors, and Chicago wanted us to eat salary.

To everyone who is sh1tting on Chiarelli, compare the Oilers line-up today to what it was at the end of last season... The Oilers are better now.

You're absolutely right. Chia turned down a 2nd from the east so he could trade yak within the same conference for a lesser value
- kessellover69

getting a 3rd is crappy value - no way around that
Thats called hindsight. Looking back at a draft and saying Oilers should have selected Dman who were picked according to their rankings in that 5-10 spot is foolish
- DDM-Coga
I know I get to you enough to write a false statement under your screen name ... but atleast next time I say they should of take a D-man instead of an enigmatic russian, you wont argue

its a new low for the handicaps.

yakupov is a bust on one hand, but chiarelli got fleeced on the other

i guess they really can have it both ways. i guess no one ever said trolling had to actually have logic to it...

I think it's obvious .... but when if you take McDavid out of this line up..... compare what they had 4 years ago to now - in terms of potential.

Larsson is the only one I can say is a really solid chance of tipping the scale... but man, how do you mismanage 3 1st overall picks like that.... I won't say things are as accurate as that statement but wow

crappy value in terms of what his pedigree was 4 years ago. but not in terms of what he is today

and then hindsight. good point

Right on. I figured Chicago wanted some cap relief of some type out of the possible deal.

Why bother with this guy? He's recommended trading almost every one of our assets for Marc Methot. And written HallFan-esque diatribes defending his proposals. Stop giving it a reason to return.

Well... one step forward and one (edit-two) back...
I honestly don't have the heart to put one of those dumb laughing emoticons on. Yak... I guess its something but really its not. As for Russell... for all the times you guys gave us a hard time over him. At least your shot blocking improves for a maesly 3+mill...

Yak didn't get his peak value but a potential 2nd and a ECHL filler is acceptable considering his value was borderline 3rd at the deadline last year it's a tolerable return. Russell is a waste of roster spot.

Those two concepts aren't mutually exclusively. Being a bust means being far short of original potential, not having little or no trade value. Eric Johnson is a bust of a first overall as well. You'd still criticize Avs GM if he got traded to someone for a third rounder.

yakupov today and e johnson at the time of his trade arent even in the same stratosphere.

lets not get into the returns each got that are hardly in the same realm. or the trade requests. or the depth chart bypassing of guys on try outs and injury riddled players totally written off. etct etc
we're not talking falling short of slam dunk superstar first overall like e johnson did, yaks hasnt even unequivocally proven he can play in this league in any capacity and be effective. he was destined for the pressbox opening night. his value was non existent.

i dont even know how you thought this was a relevant retort

Actually no. If Johnson brought back a 3rd I'd think it's a little low but not grossly wrong. But at the same time Johnson is a right shot defenseman capable of playing decent but not upper tier minutes so he should have more value than a left shooting winger that brings not much but potential offense.

And yet 4 months ago you would have gone ballistic if anyone spitballed hypotheticals like "Hall for Larsson"or "Yak for a conditional 2nd to make cap room for Kris Russell."

I will grant you that the team has been converted from rosterbation fodder that can't crack 75 points into merely a below-average NHL team with upside.

Man (frank) Yak. That banana eater had to go!! So did Hall. This team can't get any worse, rid yourself of the distractions. Addition by subtraction!

You're obviously not very familiar with me than. I've said about a million times that I'd trade Yak for a Mars bar... Hall out and Lucic + Larsson in... Yeah, that swap (and signing) had me going ballistic for sure... Still can't stop crying over that one.

Mars bars are quite delicious, I must admit. It ranks up there as one of my favourites. It's been so long since I've had a Twix... Now there's a bar I could go for right about now.
