The thing with Ramo, Berra, and Enroth is not any of them are what I would considered a grizzled veteran goalie. More like a collection of never-was'ers. I'm still thinking swapping a low value 1-way contract for a goalie would be the best way to go. Keeps our contract number the same, and helps alleviate the logjam on the wings that will hold the kids back.

The New Jersey forums keep kicking up JVR for Kinkaid + picks/prospects. What does everyone think of that? If the package included their first, I could swallow that pill.

Yeah, I guess I can always fall back on "Yeah, well your stupid team hasn't won since my crappy team has been in existence!!"

My standard reply to Buffalo fans;

I'm sorry, I don't take crap from people whose city has less Stanley Cups than Kenora, Ontario.

A grizzled vet goalie is actually not a bad idea.

Has the maturity to keep the young guy on an even keel.

But doesn't threaten the young guy - everyone knows that the grizzled vet is not the goalie of the future - it's his job to help make the young guy the goalie of the future.

Another great write-up Lucas!

I would look at a guy like Pavelec.

At $3.9Million, this is a guy that could probably land you a prospect or a draft pick in this trade with the Jets.
From a cap-hit perspective, it is only 1 year, and not for anything, this is the time when the Leafs can still take on a bad contract or two, in order to obtain a young player or pick.
Pavelec has somewhat of a solid track record....so, if the Leafs were to look at trading him come the deadline, you could again, get in return, a prospect, or a draft pick.

Combined stats over the last two seasons:
W 35 L 29
SV% .914
GAA 2.49

- Sandro

I almost thew up at first... but if the Leafs are getting something to take the contract..ok ...otherwise

Given what the gave up the "young guy" better be the goaltender of the future..He's not a rookie..Sparks is enough backup for him.. and there isn't a "grizzled vet" available..Nothing on list comes close to that.

Kinkaid is a thow-in on a jvr deal

I prefer proven nhl talent over picks/prospects for jvr. Preferably a dman.

Just not convinced there a better option than Sparks right now..Either way doesn't matter Andersen will start most games so backup not a big deal.

I'm fine with the plan to play Lupul until he explodes.

With the exception of last year, the guy can play hockey - until he gets injured.

Leafs will probably get Niemi as backup goalie.
Would prefer Scott Darling.
Not so sure one of the NJ backup/young goalie is an upgrade over current backup goalies.
