He still needs a 2 year deal to make it a non issue. Thankfully they can elect to do so even if it gets to arbitration. - Baxter27
Exactly, I'm not worried.

Off-topic, but does anyone know the circumstances of Patrick Maroon's suspension and subsequent trade from the Flyers/Phantoms was about? |

I believe it was something to do with his attitude being poor.

Well, yes, but what was the exact reason? With Anthony DeAngelo, it was a slur he used against a teammate in juniors. Just wondering Maroon said something to a teammate/coach? |

Maroon had 54 points in 80 games in his first AHL season and then seemed to go to hell after that (especially when the team moved to Glen Falls).

Yeah I understand and I am not opposed to that...just saying I have a slight feeling towards Weal in the AHL - YuenglingJagr
IMO, Weal is a bit of a longshot to make the team out of camp. He played only 14 games last season. Hextall built a pretty good AHL squad and should be a big part of the offense. Ultimately, Weal has to be a top 6 guy to be effective. I think the kid has to get playing time and he won't get that with the Flyers. I'm hoping he lights it up in the AHL. |

I don't think the story ever really came out, but from what I read it was an issue between the player and the coaching staff. Insubordination type stuff. It was definitely need-to-know information. I looked it up during the playoffs because I couldn't believe the organization would let him go for nothing without good reason. |

I think a 9 game trial for a 19 year old like Konecny should be seriously considered. Give him October to see if he is ready like Fabbri was. I don't really get Hextall's reluctance on the trials. So long as you don't burn a year off his ELC unnecessarily or waste months of his season like the Pens did with Sprong, it should not hurt the player or the team. - Feanor
I would agree with this also considering that it is a little easier to work a young forward in to the lineup over a young d-man.
Konecny could ONCE AGAIN look great in preseason. But the real test will be getting him out there and see how he does against REAL NHL players players at regular season speed with regular season intensity.

It's never been fully explained by either side. The most I eve read on it was some quotes from Greg Gilbert about it from this column in 2015
http://www.theglobeandmai...-stardom/article24632985/
It seems like Gilbert was miffed that Maroon spent the summer playing in an IIHF inline tourney. Gilbert has a bit of a reputation for being a hard ass and having difficulty with player who don't buy in all the way. He's had success in minor pro and CHL hockey, though. |

Who sneaks into the top 6? I assume you have:
Schenn - Giroux - Simmonds
(player) - Couturier - Voracek
I would almost rather have Konecny in the top 6 and then follow up with some combination of bottom 6 role players - J35Bacher
would love to see laughton on either LW, and personally, would like to see G and Jake back together again |

He's talked about his reasons. Saying that bringing a kid into a 9 game NHL trial and then if the kid doesn't make it - all of the damage psychologically and the travel back to juniors and getting themselves back into hockey at the junior level - stating it's a very difficult thing for a youngster to endure and could potentially thwart progress and development of the player. |

Ugh, if that is the reason they sent Maroon home, it's short sighted and dumb. |

I expect AMac to be waived and sent to LHV assuming Provorov makes the team. - BiggE
Will be interesting to see if they bury AMac, or if they play him to get him the 40 games he needs to be eligible to be taken in the expansion draft.

Aside from MJL, I don't think anyone was really "happy" about it. More of an, "Oh, okay, I guess he'll be adequate" sense from the masses. - jmatchett383
Maybe Hextall was happy about it also! |

He does not need to play 40 games in order to be taken in an expansion draft. The Flyers have to expose a defenseman who is under contract for 2017 and has played 40 games in 2016 or 70 games over the 2015-2016 seasons |

MacDonald will be eligible for the expansion draft if he plays 0 NHL games this season.
Anyone who has played more than 2 North American pro seasons over the age of 20 must be protected or left exposed, regardless of NHL games.
What you're referring to is the NHL forcing teams to expose at least 1 defenseman, signed through the 2017-18 season, who played at least 40 games in 2016-17 or a combined 70 games in 2015-16 & 2016-17.
Flyers can met that criteria with Gudas or they can re-sign Nick Schultz for 1 season or re-sign Brandon Manning for two seasons and play hi in 14 games this season |

I skimmed it but it seems like something that Bill has alluded to. I get the need for being a professional to excel in this league...but if a guy is enjoying hockey, is it that bad? |

Interesting tactic.
http://www.startribune.co...t-dumba-update/387486251/
Arbitration can often be a contentious process, and the Jordan Schroeder negotiations became contentious today when the Wild placed the 25-year-old right wing on waivers.
He's not on unconditional waivers, which would signal that Schroeder has a contract in Europe. He's on regular waivers, which pretty much serves no purpose in the summer unless the Wild, unhappy he filed for arbitration, it trying to prove a point.
If Schroeder clears waivers Wednesday at 11 a.m., he'll remain a restricted free agent and Wild property with a July 27 arbitration date.
But the Wild's exposing him for 29 other teams to take for a mere $15,000 waiver fee.
If he clears, it would be the fourth time in less than a year that Schroeder has cleared waivers. Thus, eight days before a potential hearing, the Wild likely feels this would strengthen its case that Schroeder is a minor-league depth player and does not deserve the one-way contract he's seeking. |
