RE: Edler's NTC.
This quote is from a 2014 blog by esteemed Canucks writer Carol Schram (perhaps you've heard of her).
"In the end, I get to decide [for myself]," Edler told Expressen, "but if the team wants [a trade] ... well, then you get to decide whether you want to play for a team that does not want you."
I think Edler would move on, if asked to. He might insist on having a say in where he went though. I think Detroit would be an attractive option for him, |

Detroit would have been an attractive option for the Nux if that idiot MG had pulled the trigger before July 1st of that year when his NTC kicked in... could have had Nyquist, Tatar, and some other guy... |

Nice find!
Right now, though, I'm pretty sure the Canucks do want Edler. He'd leave a huge hole if he was dealt—as we saw when he was out with injury in the late stages of the year.
He's needed next year. |

I think Edler was coming off a very poor year at that point, though, and wouldn't have fetched Nyquist or Tatar. I do think he would have made a good fit in Detroit - that said, he is still the number one defenseman on the Canucks, so it would be difficult to replace him |

For Zogg in the last blog:
I checked and apparently Brassard's cap hit is $5m but his cash pay is $3m this year (NYR just paid the $2m signing bonus), then $3.5, and $3.5... so very much a Melnyk deal |

From Twitter. May also apply to Gudbranson and other poor advanced stat guys.

I'm waiting to meet an analytics person who's had to go into the corner and get a puck against Shea Weber. Let me know if anyone finds one.

Brutal deal. Zibinajad is arguably already better than brassard, and they gave up a 2nd!? Agree it's a melnyk deal, but good laird! |
|

|
I don't complain about our owner. He pay to the cap every year and expects results. I have no qualms about that.
McCaw anyone? |

Anyone who continues to complain about the Canucks ownership should look at Ottawa. Not a cap team, sets unreasonable expectations, makes trades based on saving $$'s. I'm not even going to go canvassing Sens fans for an organ transplant. All owners meddle, but Melnyk takes the cake.
And as far as the trade for Kane is concerned, perhaps Trevor should hire Brian Murray as a consultant and have him trade a mean poutine to his nephew for Kane. That's basically the same as trading Lehner for a first rounder.... |

I like zbinijad, but I would take Brassard easily over the two.
He scores about 5 goals and 10 assist more per year.
Hardly brutal. |

I think both players are similar (in terms of stats - yes, Brassard has the edge in points at this time, but Zibanejad is quite younger and has been trending up the last few years, showing that he still has upside). But what makes the trade uneven is the throw in of the second round pick (which is most likely going to be a high one, if this past season is any indication). It's definitely another head-scratcher, all things considered (it's not like Ottawa is getting any cap relief, so really not sure of the reasoning behind the move)
P.S. I agree with Rocket - Melnyk is one of the worst owners in the NHL |

it's actually allowed Ottawa to get 2mill$ more to spend... so Ottawa not being a cap team just freed up $2mill from their budget really by getting a roughly $5mill player for $3mill. This is assuming Zibenjaad would command that much when it comes time to resign.
if Ott wants, they can go out and spend that extra 2 mill at the tdl to bring a guy on board... |

My understanding is, they are only getting a bit of cap relief because the Rangers paid Brassard's $2 million bonus before July 12- the rest of his contract is significantly higher ($5 millon per year including yearly bonuses) than Zibanejad's |

Brassard is also a much better player in his own zone. I understand that fans often get caught up in potential, myself included, but I have no doubts that Brassard is a better more complete player and still in his peak years, Zibby has been ready to breakout for a few years now....
I don't really like the deal for Ottawa but I don't think it is terrible. |

Slow day, but I am curious people's opinion on the Canadian team's offseasons. Some major trades and controversial ones, how would you guys rank them?
Canadiens: Weber/Subban, Shaw/Eller,
Leafs: Andersen/Bernier+picks, Rychel/Harrington
Sens: Brassard/Zibenijad+pick, Sieloff/Chiasson
Flames: Chiasson/Sieloff, Elliot/picks,
Oilers: Larsson/Hall
Canucks: Gudbranson/McCann+pick

Leafs trade is not that simple. I read today there are conditional picks . If Ducks don't win the cup with Bernier, then Leafs need to give up Pitts first round pick and another teams second round pick. No on sh1ts on Uncle Lou and the dumb moves he has made but everyone is more than willing to take a wet fart on JB |
