Must draft a core FIRST, then make trades when you have full cupboards in terms of prospects, then sign some quality UFA's. |

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuug! Why can't people get it thru their thick skulls you draft a core first and foremost, then you trade prospects!
You don't trade your prospects when you only have five with a serious chance at an impactful NHL career......fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuug! |

Of the cup winners in the last 6 years how many of their first round picks in the last 6 years were part of the roster when they won the cup? |

I have no idea of what relevance this has, or what a six year time frame has, to do with drafting a core group of players? It may take six to eight years to draft a core group from any round!
Draft and ESTABLISH a group of core players first, however long it takes. Duncan Keith was drafted in 2002, Seabrook in 2003, Hjalmarsson in 2005, Toews in 2006, Kane in 2007......they all made the NHL together or were playing on the same team in 2008, in other words it took them six years to draft a core group.
LA drafted Brown in 2003, Kopitar in 2005, Quick in 2005, Doughty & Voynov in 2008, again six drafts to establish a core group and build a prospect pool so you could trade some of them.
It takes as long as it takes! |

You don't know, so don't trade them, this isn't hard Vantel
Keep drafting until you establish a core, unless you're the Leafs, who've traded most of their youth for the past 40 years for the immediate fix.....you constantly make fun of them yet you want to run an organization just like them |

I really believe with reduced minutes, by getting a lot better defensive group, you'll see way less brain fart's from Edler.
Offensively he may not be as good as he once was but defensively he can still match up really well against other teams top lines, and still put up 30 points. - LeftCoaster
its just a matter or numbers for any dman...the more minutes you play the more errors are made. Errors are a fact of life for D men in this fast NHL.
the difference is it 90% error free?, 70%? etc. |

It has a lot to do with it.
So the Hawks since 2002 Hawks who won 3 cups had 5 of its 14 first round picks
Kings who won twice 5 also of its 14 first round picks.
It is just nonsensens to say you can't move one or two x first round draft picks .
You said in one sentence get it through our thick skulls stop moving draft picks ,and in the next sentence you say hold on chief let's see if they make the NHL.
I remember also seeing you laughing at Oilers for years not trading one of those picks for need. ( it doesn't help that Chiapet made a horrible trade) .
You have to understand we have 14 players under 27 and probably Demko Boeser and Juolevi making it to the NHL in the next two years.
That will be way too many kids on the roster under 22. If you can make an upgrade by moving one or two players , you need to do it.
You may have a young Sven Baertschi as a second line forward but if you can trade for an upgrade now for a better young 2 nd line winger while the Sedins are here, you go for it . |

I know it's not universally accepted, but I personally believe that even without all of the injuries last season the Canucks were still a pretty bad team. They're better now, but who knows how well the new players will mesh or how healthy they'll be next season. They'll be better but that's a low bar. Their best propects are one year, maybe two, maybe three years away from having an impact. It's too soon to start moving what little depth we have.

You're missing the entire point, you can't see the forest for the trees...they haven't established a core of players for when the Sedins retire. I'm 100% opposed to trading anymore youth until they find that group.
You're making this huge (wrong) assumption all these kids will turn out just as projected, the truth is, you don't know. So have patience and develop them. Once you've found you're #1 center and your #1 dman then trade some of your youth for help. Like LA did with B. Schenn and Simmonds. |

Sutter 5 years
Edler 4 years?
Tanev 5 years
Eriksson 6 years
Markstrom 3 years
Hansen 2 years
Sedins 2 years most likely extended.
Bo
Gudbrandson
9 players multiple years. That my friend is a core without touching Tryamkin Hutton JV Boeser Juolevi Sven |
