How do you know that?

Players like Burrows who was slow and ineffective last year have been training all summer to be faster and more productive. He swears he is coming back in first line shape.

Tanev who had a weak shot last year has hired a shooting coach .

JV has been training with the twins

Tryamkin was in the gym weeks ago traing on fitness.

The team knows their weaknesses and will be trying to fix them all summer so how can you say with 100 % certainty that I will be disappointed?

Looking forward to seeing what Tree will do after a summer in the gym. I was surprised how out of shape he was when he came over. I always thought the Russians were hard core after seeing those documentaries about the Red Army training.

he looked like he was in shape until he got on the ice. needs more cardio work. he looked totally gassed a few times after longish shifts but that expression on his face like he knew he could do better and his conditioning was holding him back.

I like some of the pieces in our d corps. I just hope we can move Sbisa and if we acquire another dman, they are young enough not to need waivers.

I was a little disappointed to see Fedun leave. thought he was getting better.

So we were supposed to keep guys like Kesler, Bieksa, Hamhuis, Garrison, Lou, Higgins, Salo, Ehrhoff and such and just keep building around them to get pounded in the first round every season? Some guys take on 'core' here is so skewed. The Hawks of course have players that want to STAY there. Makes a big difference when you are building around a core that wants to stay where they are.

JB has changed 18/23 players here in under 3 seasons. If that isn't changing the core I'm not sure what is.

That massive turnover is a rebuild & was done on the fly.
What JB did was remake an older team into a competitive team where as the kids have opportunity vs the cup run era.
He stated the PO's r an annual goal as they should be. No surprise there.
To date he has done fine on cal management a key component going forward.
To me that is essential as the team develops its new identity.
Drafting trading & ufa's is a continuing process and i've no qualms so far.
IMO this season will indicate much how far we have gone establishing if we will be a perennial PO team. From there cup building will ensue as players mature. If players fasttrak the process will speed up. WD will show his skill this season or next if truly an NHL coach that can take the next steps. Furthermore this season will be critical on how much the kids and team dynamics have improved & WD will be scrutinized whether a good or poor job is done.

And speaking of cores, and as an example, what would people be saying about the Bruins in 2008? Who would be on their list? Chars, Thomas, Bergeron, Lucic, Marchand? Who would be their 1C to win them the cup? Who would be their goalie? What about their grit and energy players? A couple of punks drafted in the 2nd and 3rd rounds?

Benning is building. It won't happen overnight. It may not happen at all. But not knowing who the 1c will be in three years doesn't mean that the future Canuck team won't be able to contend in a few years. I for one had high hopes for McCann and did not like trading him, but I understand why it was done and look forward to seeing how Benning's moves play out.

As much as we need to find a future 1C its not easy & many teams have been looking for years. That said JB is building a 200' team game & adding elements as in grit in EG. For me that is prudent cuz the days if us being an offensive team r gone. Takes time for any team relying on offense to win any cup & its rare at that. Going JB's makes sense while waiting for offense to rise to the top as in a Boeser or OJ. Currently i like the teams makeup but its still in its infancy.

Gabby, we've had many conversations about this and you agreed, WD isnt NHL quality. Nor is Lidster. The addition of NHL vet coach Jarvis however will help. The more they let him do the better.
Personally I'd say for a professional hockey team the annual goal should be winning the cup! You don't shoot low in your expectations.
