Here's my suggestion from last night.

I don't really buy into the likelihood of Subban being traded but just for fun, how does this fair as a start for a proposal?

Mtl - Subban, Eller, 9th overall, Scherbak, Matteau

For

Columbus - Seth Jones, Ryan Murray, Scott Hartnell, 3rd overall (Puljujarvi), low level prospect/pick

Thought small pieces could be thrown in. Jared Boll could be taken to balance cap a bit more for Columbus). Matteau or Danault could go the other way. Could be other pieces too. We just need to get rid of a bottom sixer somewhere. I'd include Scherbak if needed if the 3rd overall was Puljujarvi.

It's a bit different than what we've seen as the focus is on the replacement for Subban now and Markov next year. It's the main reason why I don't see a deal working with Edmonton as they don't have a good RHD to replace Subban.

And I know Eller isn't quite the centre that Columbus is looking for either, although I don't think he slots in poorly behind Dubinsky and Jenner. Columbus also thinks they just got their RHD in Jones but Subban is still the better defenseman.

Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Gallagher
Hartnell - Plekanec - Puljujarvi
Whatever

Forwards - ~$37M

Markov/Murray - Jones
Markov/Murray - Petry
Beaulieu - Pateryn
Barberio

Defence - ~$21M

Price
Condon

Goalies - ~7M

It would actually still allow Montreal to get another addition for 2nd/3rd line if they can clear Emelin and/or Desharnais.

We give up the best player in Subban but in return get two #2-4 defencemen who both have potential to be top 1-3 defenseman, a current #2 LW and a likely future #1 RW.

And the biggest issue plaguing us for years is addressed, size with skill.

Murray is 6'0, 200lbs
Jones is 6'4, 210(?) lbs
Hartnell is 6'2, 210(?) lbs
Puljujarvi is 6'4, 200(?) lbs

Couldn't remember the weights exactly. And could still add in an Okposo. Or a Brouwer to flip between 2nd and 3rd line with Puljujarvi while he adjusts to the NHL. In addition, a McGinn for the 3rd line would be good as well.

Edit - I think my final thought would be to go after just McGinn and have the following lineup.

Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Gallagher
Hartnell - Plekanec - Puljujarvi
McGinn - McCarron - Andrighetto
Carr - Mitchell - Byron
Danault - Flynn

Murray - Jones
Markov - Petry
Beaulieu - Pateryn
Barberio

Loved the 90% bruins first rounder traded this morning. Real good sources there . Never believed it for a second, but just in case you haven't figured it out yet you are the (frank)ing bottom of the barrel of insignificant hockey news. Congrats
