I wish there was a deal to get Boone Jenner.

Me too, I can think of no better successor for Kunitz.

I'm really high on him but that trade is a loss of epic proportions for us.

Before everyone starts to nuts on the trade Murray to Calgary train a couple of their posters were on in the MAF debate. The have a guy, Gillies is his name that they are very high on. The main reason they are looking for a goalie (MAF) is to bridge two years until he seasons. Really do not see them looking to have two guys in their early twenties competing for time at goaltender.

From what I've read, Gillies looks good so far, but still at least 1-2 years away from even backing up in the big club, but doesn't have nearly the projected upside of Murray.

A) Nuke can play both wings but is a natural LW. Yes, he's a right shot but like most Russians he prefers the side opposite to his shot.

B) that's a bad trade for us. No way in hell you trade Olli for Nuke.

He's a left shot

I have no interest in trading maata. I can't think of a way we could acquire another top 4d. I'm not a big believer Schultz or pouliot can fill that next year. Once upon a time people saw Schultz as a top pairing potential guy but he's ruined too much to reach his potential next year. If pouliot gives you 30 pts next year and isn't mistake prone 3rd pairing guy next year I would be very happy.

Scuderi for Daley trade for a top 4 guy was far more luck than we should ever see again

Boone Jenner for maata would be the only way. Not sure it could happen Jenner had a better year.

Oh is he? Fact remains he's either or. I've seen him listed as a LW or both on plenty of sites

I disagree...
But I dont think Maatta is going to be better than a #3 dman, and I think Nichushkin is the next Tarasenko.

PIT could get further creative and swap #2 and #3 with WPG. Say:

#3 + Bennett + 2nd in 2017 for #2? Maybe add a mid-level prospect as well...

- mventres

I know 2 and 3 are somewhat considered similar value this year. But no gm is giving up that decision for a 2nd round pick

Some scouts have Laine over Matthews, no scouts have Puljujarvi over Laine.

Just an idea, it would be a 2nd, Bennett maybe a mid-tier prospect or even another mid-round pick.

Open to ideas of course, I don't see it costing another 1st rounder to move up from #3 to #2, maybe Sprong+#3?

Mike Hoffman would be my trade target. Decent skater with a Neal like release and shot. He'd be Malkins new winger... Only downside would be Ottawas asking price and Hoffman is due for a raise

It definitely could cost a lot more than a 1st. All depends on what opinion the guy picking 2 has of the two players.

In crosbys draft year would you trade 3 late 1st to move down from 1 to 2. Or malkins draft year would you even consider moving down a spot.

Strong news is bit of a blow. 7-8 months from a practice injury? What the hell were they practicing?!

Maatta's foot speed is pathetic for a young guy. Thats all i have to say.

On the fehr points before. The intriguing thing is he didn't have a full offseason to train. But the trade him camp is mostly because we might have needed to cut a small cap and he was the easiest guy to target (count me in the neutral)

Maatta has been hit with two serious shoulder injuries, cancer and a real bad spleen injury from the check into the open door. He didn't have pathetic foot speed his rookie year and hasn't had a chance to consistently train since then. Plus, he's only 21 - let's give him a bit of a break. He's gone through more in the last two years than a lot of people will in their lives. If he's still slow after a full, healthy offseason - which may not be this one if he has to fulfill his military obligation.
