I guess that depends on the extent of the injury, I think they have enough depth in WBS with guys like Guentzel and Simon that could carry them through short term injuries, if it's long term then they're in the same situation as they were in this year with Dupuis and they just place the player on LTIR and use that savings plus the extra cap room to upgrade then. If they can make moves that upgrade the roster then I have no issue making the move after the fact as a salary dump but I don't think making the move first and then hoping to upgrade is a smart approach, having a ton of cap space but not being able to acquire upgrades does them nothing. - jaydogg1974
I am referring to defensive injuries, which is what crippled us that year. We don't have a great defensive depth anymore. |

If we don't trade him, I'd love to see Pouliot starting next season. Even if it's just to QB the PP. As much as people love Letang, QBing the PP clearly isn't his calling.

Of course you won't keep a Cullen at the expense of a Malkin or Kessel but you better be able to find an adequate replacement or it doesn't matter who your superstars are in the end. Sometimes there's no rhyme or reason to it, but if you have it and it works for whatever reason, you should do everything to keep it together and if at all possible, try to make it even better. - NJPensfan
It's far-fetched, but if Frans Nielsen were to be affordable, it would be a great get. Because he could replace Cullen on a shut down 4th line for a year and then take over between Hagelin and Kessel if Bonino goes elsewhere after next year. I've always like his game, but his speed would especially suit this group of Penguins. |

Fehr finally looking healthy and in better shape in the final series was freaking nice.
That injury he had in the middle-end of the season just crippled his getting into top form. Same as Maatta, but him having a much lesser role made it easier to ignore. - Guile
That came off wrong. I'm not pro trading Fehr. At least not this season. He's also one of our more expendable pieces. He and Cole probably are. If there's ever a point when a younger, cheaper player is ready to step into one of those guys' roles, trades should be explored for cap relief. I don't think Sundqvist is ready to oust Fehr yet. |

I think Nielsen's gonna get paid like a 2nd liner, or else the Isles would keep him. |

Wasn't implying you were... just giving Fehr a pat on the back and looking forward to him being in better form the next two years. |

Agreed. I think he would be good but ultimately to expensive.

From Josh Yohe on dkonpittsburghsports.com:
Fleury still has some power and will stay with the Penguins if he decides this is his preference. No one has to show him the door. The Penguins only intend to trade him if he requests a trade. But no one I’ve spoken to believes he really wants to stay. |

It gets harder to deal him with every passing trade period because we have less and less leverage. That's a very dangerous game to play. - Victoro311
Leverage is a myth in the NHL. Every year we hear how a team is screwed because they have no leverage to move a player then a week later they get a great deal for the player.

What trade besides the Jordan Staal trade leads you to believe this? Off the top of my head, Sharp went in a sub par deal, Bickell required TT to unload, Kessel probably went for 70 cents on the dollar due to his NTC. There are plenty of instances of players going in subpar to bad deals due to lack of leverage. |

If Murray is this good what will his next contract look like? At least with Fleury you are locked in and know what it is. I think it's pretty risky to just dump Fleury not being 100% with Murray. |

Boychuk, Leddy, Sharp, Saad, Hags (from NY), all trades that brought back underwhelming returns due to cap issues. I'm sure there's more, but you have to be proactive. The sooner the better. |

I think the Price and Holtby deals are fairly good indicators. Both got 2-3 year bridges and then signed around ~6 mil. So in 3-4 years time, Murray will cost as much as Fleury, but that's a significant time period of cap savings. |

Neither one of them have a ring. I'm not saying you're wrong but it is definitely something to consider. |

If Martin Jones gets over 6 mil on his next deal... that argument will be valid. He has a ring |

Why does the nhl need to expand again? If anything they could lose two teams and abouy half of the fanbase and be better off. |

It's terrible for sure, but that expansion money is too tempting for the owners. Talent is already watered down. It's awful for the game, but great for the owners. It's funny how those two things can coexist. |

They definitely don't need to expand but the NHL has 500 million reasons to do it anyway. |

Imagine if Fleury was as leaky as Murray this past post season. Everyone on herr would be female doging about it. |

I really think Vegas is a terrible idea. I think its going to be a hard place for the players to play. Think about it, they are going to be living in Vegas. A lot of these players like the night life, especially the younger ones. Also...Malone and Stoll arnt the only NHL'rs who indulge in coke....not even close.
Why would Vegas have a stronger fan base than Arizona, especially in the first few years? They wont. The arena will be filled (or partially filled) every game with drunken tourists who dont give a sh!t about hockey or fans of the opposing team on vacation there. I feel like it will be a loud arena but not so much because everyone will be cheering at once but because everyone will be talking at once.
With regards to Fleury...I really wouldnt be surprised if he's a Penguin opening night. |

Both are good. Fleury's better, but is older and more expensive while Murray can still grow and get better. Don't know why that's so hard to understand. Can't keep trying to keep the band together from 09. Look where that got us these past few years.
FYI, if Fleury had been as leaky as Murray this post season he would have had his best post season since 08. |
