Just remember Fehr is a natural centre and he is displaced because of Matt Cullen. It's just like Iginla.... he can maybe get by on wing but he's not comfortable doing so. - nelson911

I remember most people saying how excited they were about the fact that most of this team will be intact next season. Count me in that group.
Fehr was really good in his role. Good PK'r and good center depth should we need it (history shows we always need it).
Cole played damn good after the coaching change and is very cheap.
Maatta (I believe) is going to be a great player. I know what I saw his rookie year and I don't believe it was a mirage.
My two departures would be MAF and possibly DP. I'd bring in speedy wing or two like somebody mentioned above like Stalberg or Grabner on the cheap.
If DP goes, bring in a serviceable dman or possibly sign Schultz if cap allows. - madmike71
I'm not a DP fan yet. He truly hasn't shown me anything that suggests he is an answer. That said, we have little depth on the blueline. Probably lose Lovejoy; very well might lose Schultz too. Can we afford to deal DP if that happens? To me, if you keep Schultz, you can deal DP - but it better be in a package because DP alone doesn't net you that much ... maybe less than Fleury.
I saw an interesting thing giving each organization's best value pick and biggest bust. Pittsburgh's value pick was Letang and bust was Esposito. Detroit's bust is Anthony Mantha already according to this. To me, DP's value is Mantha, a player that has yet to catch on to his current organization and might need a change. So, you would be trading him at a low. |

Fehr played his best games for us at center. Only a handful of games, but you could tell that's his best position. |

I wanted him back at the trade deadline when it was rumored he was on the chopping block... shocked JR didn't try and grab both. But I think his being a more reasonably retained RFA makes him pricier... and that #1 overall bad pick on him - Guile
Im pretty certain he will be traded this off season, I am also pretty certain that change of scenery is going to bring out the player he was suppose to me. He has been dumped on more than Schultz in Edmonton. He has absorbed Kessel in Toronto levels of media nonsense since his second season.
Im in Vegas this weekend, I imagine JR will be there since he has to accept his GM of the year award on Wednesday. I will find him and convince him of Yakupov's merits.
We trade for Yak by the draft and you'll know I was successful.
I may also convince him to trade Malkin to see the $hitshow that erupts on here if he does. |

Would prefer Cullen to come back, but we have options at fourth line center with Sundqvist and Fehr. A lot of people are on the "trade Fehr" train. I'm shaking my head. That would be dumb. Versatile player who can play center, wing, does well on the penalty kill and could fill a void for a few games in higher lines. Not a smart move. |

Exactly. He's dominant in a 4LC role. I wouldn't trade him or even replace him with Sundqvist next year. |

If they are successful in trading MAF, they can afford Schultz.
Just from what I've seen, I'm thinking DP is going to bust. If the "low work ethic" rumors are true, then maybe you trade him before he gets exposed any further.
I'm torn on the kid. Young dmen usually need more development time than forwards. |

Let's hope everyone stops pissing in his pocket & he pulls his head out of his own arse & starts helping himself develop. He was terrible last pre season after everyone was raving mad about him - he was listening to what people were saying rather than concentrating on his game (if I can believe what I've seen written about him ).
A word from Sully about him leading the charge in WBS next season might be the kick up his arse he needs. The Pens D don't need Pouliot next season like they did last. His place isn't there, he will have to battle to get there which is what I hope he does. |

And I hate to tell you, my opinion on this is correct. You aren't getting a boat load for Murray because history shows this. I brought up Schneider because he is viewed as one of the best goalies in the NHL. He was in a similar situation in vancouver, but had a much larger sample size than Murray and it was pretty good. Vancouver made a mistake keeping Luongo over Schneider. Sure, it got Horvat, but ... they aren't close to being a play-off team and Schneider is viewed as a top goalie in this league. Where is Murray viewed? Still remains a question. Sample size is still too small despite him winning a Cup.
BFD if he sh*t the bed in his two play-off games. BFD if he was older. Fact remains, Schneider was more of a known commodity than Murray and he got a overall nine pick. Murray doesn't net you a top 20 pick. So, those thinking we get a much better return on Murray are more than likely wrong. Why? Because history shows it.
Again, simple decision here. It's trade Fleury. - Oneonta Penguin
So, by your logic, Drouin barely has any value because of a small sample size. Every prospect has little value because they dont have a large sample size yet? I think you're oversimplifying a value of a player to another team by saying he has a small sample size.
Hell, you yourself are okay with keeping Murray as the starting goalie on a team with cup aspirations and Sid and Geno still in their primes. If Murray was as much of a question mark as you're suggesting, there would be no goalie debate.
And lastly, drawing comparisons is a fruitless exercise. Every situation is different. It's like saying because Orpik got a 5 x 5 contract, that Ben Lovejoy will get the same....because, hey, history shows it. |

A simple concept you cannot seem to grasp is when you trade Fleury, its not what you get in return, but its also what you can do with the $$$ saved to go out and shop. BFD if its a third round pick and a crappy prospect if that 5.75 million allows you to go sign a top six forward. Did you ever think of this? Probably not.
Do you honestly think someone will trade a young top six forward + pick + good prospect for Murray? LOL. Stop ... please. He has 34 career starts in the NHL and while he has won the Cup and has great numbers, there still remain questions. I thought he was a legit Conn Smyth candidate until he crapped the bed with two softies in game 5. People also seem to think he benefitted from Pittsburgh's domination and wasn't tested a lot in the final series.
No one is trading that for Murray right now. - Oneonta Penguin
I was emphasizing a point about weighing both options.
So you are the sample size police talking about not saying he is not valuable because of lack of games played, but then say 2 soft goals in one game extremely damages his value? You contradict yourself. |
