I think it's his age and physical style of play. Look at Mike Richards he's the same age and was once the captain of a team, centering the 1st line and putting up 30 goal seasons. I just think some players prime's are shorter than others.

Same thing w Ryan Callahan (I know Cally's upside has never been as good as the other 2 players mentioned). Smaller statured player who gives it his all but being of a smaller body type & playing physical takes it's toll on those smaller guys quicker.

D Brown is a solid hockey player, 2 time Stanley Cup Champ, I think he has enough pride to most likely bounce back. Longer offseason this yr than usual for the Kings can help him w the extra rest.

Isn't there about 33 little Dustin Browns running around out there? At some stage the guy might just be jack of giving the 110% it takes to be a pro. Not saying he won't get it back, but winning a couple of cups & getting paid, might need a season or 2 to get the desire back???

Don't exist anymore. Only allowed post lockout for teams. Expired shortly thereafter.

Yea, it would have to be a straight buyout & I can assume the numbers would not be favorable for the Kings. He's not that far gone to think about that yet.

You can try to separate discussion of his play from discussion of his contract, but his play wouldn't be a problem without the contract. If there were no reason to hate the contract, his declining play wouldn't be a big deal. I doubt that many people are all that surprised or upset that he's declined to this point, given his style of play and never being what you'd call a smart player. If he were being paid more like a 3rd-line role player, most people would probably shrug off his play and accept him for what he is at this point in his career. There would not be nearly as much consternation about what happened to him and what can be done to try to get him back to what he once was. The only reason why anyone really cares about his decline and is trying to solve the puzzle of what happened to him is the contract and how bad it is.

I think that management and most fans are past caring to "explain the decline of Dustin Brown" at this point and care now only about what can be done to get that contract off of the books.

Speaking of which, I was reading earlier today that players with NMCs may be allowed to waive them so that teams can leave them off of their protected lists. That could be big for the Kings if they would otherwise have to protect Brown, not just because Las Vegas might select Brown, but also because someone else (like a Pearson or King) could be protected, instead. It was also mentioned that LA might incentivize Las Vegas to take Brown, I'm guessing with a draft pick for "future considerations," swapping draft picks so that LV moves up (and LA down) or something similar.

This^^^ I have no problem with his play, just what he makes. And if there was no cap, I wouldn't care about his contract either.

Completely agree. He's fine as a forward on the third line if he makes about 3mil less. But that contract

Bingo. I've said it numerous times when it comes to Brown, but if he is paid half of what he is making then he is an excellent third line player that most teams would want.

Brown has a modified NTC, not a NMC, so this doesn't apply to him. He will be allowed to be left unprotected, with or without his consent.

For some reason, I was thinking that it was a modified NMC, but that doesn't make sense, now that I think about it. Thanks for the correction.

Even if left unprotected, the LV team would still want him, right? Brown couldn't be forced on them, could he?

Hate to say this since he's been such a warrior and class act for the franchise and community.. But he's prime buy out material if a trade can't be swung.

this is really the issue in my mind at this point...if exposed and unselected, then what? still guessing they keep him for a few more years before 1)the remaining term allows him to be tradeable with a pick/prospect to entice or 2)the buyout ramifications are less onerous.

cap hit ramifications until 2028 is not exactly "prime buyout material"
