If the underlying numbers are pretty much the same, a lot of people would contribute the low shooting percentage to luck (to a degree). Therefore, if he's getting to the same places, you COULD sum it up to a slight decline, bad luck and poor usage. He could be a candidate for a bounce back with a larger role on the right team.

Correct. That's not entirely out of the question. If you gave him 2007-08 level linemates/PP usage you could probably squeeze another 50 point season out of him maybe.

Won't happen in LA though.

Are you implying the Kings are folding and setting up shop in Quebec city?

I think it's his age and physical style of play. Look at Mike Richards he's the same age and was once the captain of a team, centering the 1st line and putting up 30 goal seasons. I just think some players prime's are shorter than others.

brown's only hope for a resurgance in points is if the kings had a young buck at center with creativity who has to earn his keep as a 3C or 4C for a year or two...and i dont think shore or dowd fit that description.

expansion draft, here we come.

but he's not getting to the same places, he's shooting further and further out. And since those are averages, his shots from the goal line with a terrible angle might offset the shots he fires from right inside the blue line. After having watched damn near every shift of his Kings career, it's easy to see that DB doesn't pick corners and doesn't defer to his linemates, no matter how much more skilled they are. He just blasts away. Its always so unnerving to hear Fox say something like "smart play by Brown forcing the goalie to freeze the puck and getting a faceoff in the O-zone" after every weak shot into the bread basket.
Another thing that Brown stopped doing is getting to the front of the net and STAYING there. He might get more PP time if he did, but he doesn't. He fancies himself a puck handler and he absolutely is not.
He is what he is nowadays, and that's bottom 6 plug. Dish him the puck and either head for a change or get ready to back check.

he is a decent player that had a couple good cup runs

really he is what he is, a decent NHLer

now for the Kings to plant some drugs on him next time he crosses the boarder...what cap circumvention?

Richards was more of a skilled guy though. Brown is what he is....a big bodied power forward with a nose to shoot. Brown could get it done with guys that are carrying the puck for him and putting it on net too.

I honestly don't have the eye test that you do. However, going just by metrics, he should be more productive with a high quality, puck handling, center man.

There was a short run where Trevor Lewis was spotting top line minutes (I forget why, injury or just extended line juggling) and he was able to produce points doing just as I bolded above, but Brown doesn't do that either. He can be on a rush with Kopitar filling the middle and Brown moving down the wing and instead of getting to Kopi at the red line and heading to the net, he carries in and Kopi goes to net to take the punishment only to see 1 of 3 things happen: a) Brown get knocked off the puck somewhere between the blue line and the goal line, b)Brown take it behind the net and upon emerging from the other side send a pass straight to the point, or c) shoot the puck from the outside at the top of the circle into the crest or high and wide where the carom shoots out to the blue line and the other team skates in on their own rush with Kings forwards trapped down low still...
It is quite infuriating, and I'm just watching. I cant imagine what his line mates think. During Richards first couple of years with the Kings, I would be on the Kings blog saying that he must hate playing with Brown on his line because of his no-brainer moves with the puck and of course I would get the usual dumbpoop "how do you know, did Richards tell you that" or my favorite "are you in the room" but it seemed pretty obvious to me; you bust your ass to get the puck and then numbnuts gives it right back. It's gotta be demoralizing.

Basically, it sounds like he's trying to play a skill game when he's not the skill on the line. From what you're saying, it sounds like what would happen if Hornqvuist would carry the puck when he has a Sid/Geno wide open to take it in for him.

When less skilled players gain the line, they usually drop it to the skilled guys and then crash the net. Seems like he's just not playing smart hockey.

YES he is not! He is a (frank)ing tin man robot out there, all heart no brains and a lot of times heart isn't enough. I'm sure it can be attributed to him feeling like this time he's going to make something happen because he's feeling the pressure to make something happen, but it's at the detriment of the team. and then it's ground hog day every time he has the puck... maybe THIS time i'll put in it... ok, maybe this time...now it's this time... and on and on his game goes further and further down the poopter. He needs to realize a new aspect for his game, or the coaching staff needs to get it through his skull that he needs to know and embrace a knew role, one that he might not like, but one that whatever skills he has left is more suited for, and that's the give and go to the net game or just turn into a demon on the forecheck on the bottom 2 lines and hit everything that has the puck or had it two strides prior.

So is there anything to the rumors that there's a disconnect between Brown and DS? If so, what's it about?

DS doesn't think Brown belongs in the top 6...plenty of datapoints to suggest truth to that notion.
