According to this site, once Vinny retires the Flyers will have 17 players counting against the cap for 16-17 with a combined cap hit of $60,721,666.

If you sign Schenn (5m), Gudas (3m), Cousins (1m), and promote Provorov (.925m) and Leier (.779m), that gets you to 22 players and $71,426,283.

Buy out Umberger and it goes back down to 21 players and $68,426,283.

I'm thinking Umberger is out without a doubt.

Is that 3million a year? I don't think he is getting that. RFA this year. I would guess he gets a 1 year deal around 1.25 -2 the most. Especially if you have defense prospects coming up like Morin, Myers, Sanheim, Wilcox.

Time will tell. I'd expect Hextall to want to get Gudas and Schenn signed before July 1st so he can go into free agency knowing exactly how much cap space he has.

I think the RFA contract Gudbranson got is a fair comparison, but with Gudas he's older and closer to free agency. So 3 might be high, but only slightly, in my opinion.

Why does it matter if they're from Texas?

I'm not getting in to my progressive politics.

Outside of Austin, whole state can suck it.

I'm assuming you're showing Schenn at 5m as his max cap space. I don't think he'll get 5m at all. Max I see is 4.5m. One hot year during a contract year won't lead to Hextall giving Schenn anything crazy, especially when he's still a RFA.

Add a million to what we should expect Gudas to get.

That's why I mentioned Sanheim. You're not moving either of Ghost/Provorov unless McDavid is coming back, and I'm becoming higher and higher or Morin, even with you mancrush Myers in the pipeline. Sanheim is the one I could stomach moving.

And yes, we'd be dealing with our biggest rival (sorry, Pittsburgh), so the return would be big. But they need to move some salary with Kreider, Hayes, and Miller all needing new deals, something has to give. Sanheim gives them a young D on and ELC, Fazleev/NAK give them a young scoring winger on an ELC, Lyon/Stolarz give them an heir to Lundqvist. It's a lot, but I'd consider it.

Kreider would be that perfect fit on the LW of G without breaking the bank. His north south style would be a good system fit too

Just don't know if the Rangers would do it for a prospect as raw as sanheim

Rangers would prob want D. Can you imagine a trade like that with the Rangers? Rarely ever happens with division rivals. I would def do a deal based around Kreider and sanheim
