Kind of thinking outside the box but instead of signing someone would you be ok taking the Datsyuk contract(Detroit keeps 50%) if they gave you a prospect(Svechnikov) or 1st rounder?
- J35Bacher

I dont know why deals like this are proposed...what is the basis and rationale? I am not trying to single you out, just quoting you. What GM would do that trade right now? The answer is none. Teams value their first rounder more than ever, giving one away will result in a public stoning

Exactly. Almost 30 million tied up in 3 players, gives you very little margin of error filling out the rest of the roster. Pre-cap, I'd say bring Stamkos aboard.
Yes, size & skill are a must have. Flyers gave a great effort against the Caps for being totally undermanned, but it was frustrating to watch Ovechkin run around all over the ice and bury everyone. Simply had no answers for that.

- PLindbergh31

I think having a guy with the fear to score at will would be just as great. The fear with ovechkin is any shot could go in. Stamkos would bring that too. Also Stamkos has an underrated 2 way game and kills penalties.

So why Ladd? You're talking about a power forward type who's going to be 31 next season who's likely looking at 5+ years and $6M per year. That's a lot of money to pony up for a guy whose production will likely decline within the first 3 years of the deal, right when this team expects to compete. I'd take a shot at Jamie McGinn, look at a trade, or try to pry an RFA like Hoffman from Ottawa or Jenner from Columbus.

Jenner already signed an extension. They won't let him go anywhere.

Did put up big numbers but Alex Chaisson would interest me if he were somehow available. Big RW who has speed and kills penalties. Seems like he could slide onto the 3rd line and also kill some penalties.

Signing Caggulia would be nice as I think he would basically replace Read and provides speed and skill

I like him as well

So now we're protecting Datsyuk in the expansion draft?

Rational?

Detroit being stuck with a 7.5 cap hit if he goes to Russia would not allow Detroit to make changes. They will have to add something to move that deal.

Also there are reports that Detroit might want to make a play for Stamkos. They need to move that 7.5 and teams aren't taking it willingly.

Would they have too? It would be the last year of his deal.

Especially when a deal like Pronger for Datsyuk makes sense for both teams. The cheapskates in Arizona get a $7.5m cap hit with zero salary, and Detroit get a guy they can put on LTIR to keep Franzen company.

It's the same exact set of circumstances as Umberger. Granted, if he waived his NMC (unlike Umberger) then it's not an issue.

But you're not getting a first. Maybe something like Umberger for Datsyuk and a 4th.

If Datsyuk is retiring from the NHL, can he and Detroit just mutually terminate the deal? Not sure what you can do on a 35+ deal.

I don't think so. The 35+ rules are very strict.

I would think he would waive as no one will most likely take him if he is in Russia.

I was thinking a 1st as your not sending any bad contract their way. I wouldn't mind a prospect though. Maybe a Pulkeninen or Oullete?

I was just thinking instead of signing maybe use money another way and gain another asset. I know it's probably not probable.

The thinking is fine, but there's no way you'll get anything more than a 4th+ rounder or B- level prospect. As feanor said, it makes a lot more sense for AZ.

Hoffman and Jenner are RFAs and, while not offer-sheet candidates, they could be moved if Ottawa/Columbus think signing them will be difficult.

Or, could you do the unthinkable and pry Kredider out of NYR? I'm not sure how you do it, but they wanted Sanheim as the centerpiece (Sanheim, Fazleev/NAK, Lyon/Stolarz, 2nd), I'd listen.

- jmatchett383

Rangers would prob want D. Can you imagine a trade like that with the Rangers? Rarely ever happens with division rivals. I would def do a deal based around Kreider and sanheim

Would the Rangers entertain the idea of moving Lundquist? You have to think their window is almost shut with the current group?.

That's why I mentioned Sanheim. You're not moving either of Ghost/Provorov unless McDavid is coming back, and I'm becoming higher and higher or Morin, even with you mancrush Myers in the pipeline. Sanheim is the one I could stomach moving.

And yes, we'd be dealing with our biggest rival (sorry, Pittsburgh), so the return would be big. But they need to move some salary with Kreider, Hayes, and Miller all needing new deals, something has to give. Sanheim gives them a young D on and ELC, Fazleev/NAK give them a young scoring winger on an ELC, Lyon/Stolarz give them an heir to Lundqvist. It's a lot, but I'd consider it.

I don't think so, because they traded Cam Talbot last year. That would have been the time to trade him.

Why on Earth would anyone want the Sharks to win the Cup? Another team to have a parking lot parade Why not the Blues or Stars?
- jmatchett383

I'd be OK withthe Blues. Stars are from Texas. (frank) them.

idk how I feel about Kreider in orange and black. I've hated him his whole career practically. Drouin could be another young LW to consider

According to this site, once Vinny retires the Flyers will have 17 players counting against the cap for 16-17 with a combined cap hit of $60,721,666.

http://www.hockeybuzz.com...central/team.php?team=PHI

If you sign Schenn (5m), Gudas (3m), Cousins (1m), and promote Provorov (.925m) and Leier (.779m), that gets you to 22 players and $71,426,283.

Buy out Umberger and it goes back down to 21 players and $68,426,283.

If Stamkos leaves I am not sure if they move Drouin then. They can repair that relationship. They need to keep Drouin as they have tons of players they need to resign and need to keep that cheap ELC.

Why does it matter if they're from Texas?
