Maybe...maybe not....in six years if current paths hold....neither the Flyers nor the Sabres will have a cup. And we will be trying to deal a 25 year old Eichel, a 26 year old Reinhart and a 27 year old Ristolainen.....and youll be dealing a 32 yr old voracheck, 33 year old Simmonds, and a 34 year old Grioux.

I wonder who will get thier teams more...

If you're trying to deal 25 & 26 year old Eichels and Reinhart, you should probably fire your GM.

I'm not frustrated -- this is part of the process. It always has been.

Reading some of the typical comments...it's Negadelphia at its finest. No perspective, no desire to have any.

This Washington team is the President's Trophy winner. The best team in the sport and have been all year. They have been building to this team, this moment.

Building from what? A first-round loss in 2012-13. Missing the playoffs in 2013-14. A second-round loss last year. To this year, a team that is loaded for bear and could very well win the Cup.

Does no one else see how comparable the Flyers trajectory is to what the Capitals are now, with a little patience and luck?

Two years ago -- just two years ago -- Alex Ovechkin was a team cancer, was worst in the league in plus-minus, should be stripped of his captaincy. Adam Oates got fired, George McPhee got the boot -- after trading Filip Forsberg for Martin Erat.

I know I won't change the mind of a single hater. But this Flyers team isn't the best version of what this franchise is going to be in two years. It's just not. They are learning some good, tough lessons, the kind you have to learn -- think Nick Cousins won't have his head on a swivel now, coming through the neutral zone in the playoffs?

Those of us who have watched hockey or sports know it's true -- sometimes, you aren't quite set to face a powerful team and you get your asses kicked.

But it can turn so freaking quickly, it can make your head spin. And the Flyers have a few prospects, a little cap room, and players on the right side of 30

Their time is coming

I've read like 3 pages on here and am just rolling my eyes at a lot of the crap being posted. Hey we made the playolfs.....house money.....we suck, our players suck, Mason should be replaced....blah blah blah. for (frank) sake.

Mason has been very good since traded here minus a few bad games here and there....like all goalies. that was a terrible blunder but it happens. its the not reason why they are losing.

this team has holes. who the hell didn't know that. there is a reason why the caps had the best record and the Flyers the 7th best in the east. this is an organization that is moving in the right direction.

Seriously are people surprised the caps have been able to key on 93-28-17 and keep the line to one goal so far when the second and third lines are 12-10-89 and 21-52-24? when you have no secondary scoring its a little easier to key in on a line.

and people are surprised we a losing wen the D consist of a very past his time Streit, Schultz, and AMAC?

I am happy the Flyers made the playoffs regardless of knowing they are going to lose. I'm happy some of the younger players are getting the taste of playoffs. I'm excited that the Flyers have a crop of highly thought of prospects. I'm excited the Flyers have a bunch of future draft picks. I'm excited Hexy has been able to clear up cap space with moving Pronger's contract and Vinny. I'm excited that the Flyers have me feeling good about the future.

the Flyers don't have a player to pound OV. Seriously he is a tank and the Flyers while they play hard and physical, they are small.

I have to admit that I was probably a little harsh on Mason last night but Mononoke made a few good points about how Mase regrouped well. Nothing has changed, Steve Mason is still our guy for the next numbers of years and I'm happy he's here.

But...

I think we should start Neuvirth tomorrow night. For me, it's as simple as when Mason land an egg early this season, Neuvirth came in and recovered this team until Masom found his game. Give Neuvirth Game 3 and let's move forward from there.

- SuperSchennBros

absolutely not. I tell Mason you are the guy and send him right back out there. I don't sit him because of one bad goal.

Amazing OV knocked Couturier into next week, and last night he's blasting guys into the bench totally running amok. No one even close to making him pay a price. Sad.

There's only a handful of players in the NHL who can pound a 6'3" 240 lbs runaway train on skates though. It's why he's one of the greatest goal scorers and players in history. He's a force of nature. Sam Morin probably couldn't even pound Ovechkin.

Again, and maybe this is just me, but I really don't see the Caps outmuscling the Flyers by any large extent, except for maybe a reckless goon like Wilson. I think the Washington home crowd can color perceptions when it comes to physical play. Every hit against our guys: a boisterous cheer. When Schenn and Simmonds lay the boom: nada. That will change Monday.

Voice of reason. It seems like they are moving in the right direction. It looks like they should have a couple of good young defensemen in a year or two. Not so sure about offensive prospects tho. Cousins and Laughton don't look like anything special. Both are on the small side and neither seems to have extraordinary speed to talent to make them special players.

Exactly -- Lord knows I want them to win now, but sometimes you just aren't ready

But they have a legitimate foundation if they can just pull even a couple of the defense prospects through. And while all prospects are suspects, I have yet to read one negative report on Provorov. And if he's what the consensus says he is, then one of the biggest components that you need to contend is here

They can win with MDZ-Gudas as a pair, Ghost. If they can just upgrade the defense from within, they are gonna look so different so quickly, it'll make the haters choke on it

That's where Hextall's gonna have to help them with a sneaky little trade of a winger at the right age, or a value signing that is underrated

That one's gonna be cute. No guarantee that a trade or FA work out, but he's gonna have to try something like that, I have a feeling

I See Cousins as the 4th line center. I don't know what they have in Laughton. I have been a little disappointed in him but also remind myself he is young. I know when a player is a first rounder teams may tend to have that player take a different development route than a third rounder but I like what 2-1/2 yrs in the AHL did for Cousins and wonder if Laughton would have been better in the AHL. the Flyers do seem to have more 3rd/4th line forward prospects in the pipeline. hopefully kids like Konecny is the real deal with 1st/2nd line talent and hopefully Lindblom is that 3rd line with possibly 2nd line upside.

I know you always go with best available but I want to see the Flyers take a wing or center with size at 18.

There could be some RFAs who teams might not look at as part of their futures, as well -- there were some interesting names in this list from Sportsnet. Guys like Andrew Shaw and Marcus Johansson absolutely could come free, and they would be clear upgrades to a few players

The Flyers having a little cash this offseason, even though you need to do something with Schenn, could matter some

Definitely a debatable topic, but I think they should stick with Mason. From what I gather the players don't put the loss on him (not that they would publicly ). But even they know scoring A goal in 2 games is an embarrassment.

If they were losing 5-4 type of games I'd understand a change. Mason had a lot to do with them getting this far, just let him ride it out
