I hate to say it gang (well), but its time for the Flyers franchise to really take a look in the mirror. There are certain FACTS of the NHL that just ARE. The most important being, you cant win without TOP END, TOP NOTCH offensive talent. and the second most important being you don't get that talent in trades or free agency. Stamkos this year is once in a decade (if not longer) UFA. I cant think of the last guy that was out there that could turn a franchise around.

Kovalchuk. Parise.

I know Stamkos may be a slightly higher tier, but it's not like he's Crosby hitting the market.

I think Hextall makes a bold move for a forward. No,I don't think it will be Stamkos. That would require AMac getting shipped out with little to no money being retained for Stamkos' contract to not kill us.

I think he's going to be very active in looking to move up in this draft.

There's not enough depth at forward or size on the wings along with the fact that we basically have a d corps with a potential 2 guy and the rest being 3 to 6. I'm sure Hextall knows this.

He will have to be creative but I don't think he's planning on trading the core players and tearing it down to the ground like the leafs as was suggested. With better players around them, g Jake Schenn simmer and coots will do fine. Hexy needs to have them contending in 2 years IMO with the ages, but I think that's the plan.

I'm not suggesting they go out and trade away a core piece but one uping this and next year's 1st's could make a ton of sense to me assuming it gets you into the top 8.

Id like to believe our first line as is will be "just fine" moving forward but fact is they are far too reliant on the PP to score. That isn't going to cut it. They need a player with the skill to make things happen 5 on 5.

sharks score on their 5-3 that's how you get it done

No excuse for not capitalizing on a 5 on 3 in a playoff game you need to win. I hope they get their mojo back for game 3 but it's been frustrating to watch so far

Seemed like they tried to shake up the power play with Jake hanging a bit lower and Schenn more towards the blue line but I still think they need to adjust the personnel on the top unit

That or scheme in general. When you have two guys float down low you almost negate the man advantage. One if not both of them need to get active in the cycle game.

I say this with a HUGE amount of respect, please understand. Maybe with the passing of Mr. Snider, it is now easier to gut the whole team, suffer a little and retool it all. Its really not like you have been competing for Cups in a long while, and you have the type of team that you could really get a ransom of picks for trading the vets. Honestly, look around the league and be HONEST....as far as #1 centers go, where is Giroux?? Hed be an AMAZING #2, but a true #1?? where is he? 16?? 20??. I can honestly tell you that looking at OUR team...I don't know if Id trade a 25 year old Ryan O'Reilly straight up for him. If you also traded Simmonds and Voracek at the draft...youd get a BOATLOAD...

I am NOT trying to be an ass..just how I see it...I like nothing more that hating the Flyers, and this franchise in its current state is making it hard to hate....I see you very much as us in the Vanek/Miller/Pommiville/Roy years....some talent that on any given night can impress, but when the poop gets real...they just ARENT good enough.. It HURT watching us linger in last for 2 years but now...watch Eichel and Reinhart (who you cant believe how good he is...) do their thing and watching what we received for trading Vanek, Miller, Pomminville, et al start to come together...Id do it all over..we aren't PERFECT or even COMPETING yet....but its coming...

I know the idea of watching these guys walk out the door is going to be hard. But like us in those years...how much longer are you willing to watch the Giroux, Simmonds, Couturier, Vorachek show just MIDDLE it?

Not trying to be an ass I could write the same post to Boston, Ottawa and any number of other teams

- Ripped Fuel

Once GUYS like provorov, konecny, AND lindblom come up, the team will look MUCH different. LOOK at the difference Ghost made THIS season. That was JUST one player.

A lot of OFFENSIVE woes on this TEAM can be stopped by GETTING some d that can move the puck back there. Offense starts FROM the defense a lot of the TIME.

There is an INFLUX of speed and talent coming. No NEED to gut the team.

I have to admit that I was probably a little harsh on Mason last night but Mononoke made a few good points about how Mase regrouped well. Nothing has changed, Steve Mason is still our guy for the next numbers of years and I'm happy he's here.

But...

I think we should start Neuvirth tomorrow night. For me, it's as simple as when Mason land an egg early this season, Neuvirth came in and recovered this team until Masom found his game. Give Neuvirth Game 3 and let's move forward from there.

That's where I am -- it's been proven that for every "elite" player in the league who leads their team to a Cup, there are numerous others who fall short. It's pro sports.

Why doesn't Charles Barkley have a ring? Why doesn't Joe Thornton have a ring? Henrik Lundqvist? I don't see John Tavares with one yet. Steven Stamkos, either. Alex Ovechkin is ringless.

On and on and on.

Tearing down your team just to slot in the newest flavor of the week guarantees absolutely nothing. You still need luck, health, pieces around you. You don't get those pieces by tanking every other year or five years or whatever

You draft, trade, use FA, find a freaking goalie, No. 1 center and No. 1 defenseman if you can and take your best shot

- AllInForFlyers

If the Flyers were going to tear the team apart to draft the next superstar, they're a year too late.

An upgrade on D with the players already in the pipeline in addition to some offensive-minded forwards through FA and/or the draft, and this is a dramatically different team. Adding MDZ changes the D corps quite a bit. etc.

As for Game 3, let's see what Medvedev can do. Steal Game 3, then worry about Game 4. Steal both at home, head back to Washington tied and the Caps and their fans are going to be a little nervous.

The PP needs to produce. Personnel and/or tactics need to change. Another reason why Med might help.

Maybe...maybe not....in six years if current paths hold....neither the Flyers nor the Sabres will have a cup. And we will be trying to deal a 25 year old Eichel, a 26 year old Reinhart and a 27 year old Ristolainen.....and youll be dealing a 32 yr old voracheck, 33 year old Simmonds, and a 34 year old Grioux.

I wonder who will get thier teams more...
