I think DS is tinkering with the D right now with AMart out. I think we'll see DD-RS, AM-JM, and LS-BM come game 1 if AMart is healthy... if not it'll be how we see it now with Schenn and Scuds together. I cant see Scuds in the presser come game 1 only because of the veteran love DS has for players. |

Jamie McBain should be in the line up every night.
This season, the Kings are 29-10-3 with him in the line up, while only 18-18-2 without him.
Over his time with the Kings 44-17-7 with, 35-34-10 without.
He is maybe the best outlet passer on this team, can get shots through, is not as bad defensively as advertised (and his minutes and zone starts get masked anyways). Quite simply, we must stop sitting him for inferior players. Schenn is undisciplined and can't complete a pass to save his life, and if he does he leaves the receiving player in a poor position to continue up ice. He also has a weak shot for a defender. Scuderi is just so slow that he is nearly un-iceable IMO. Although it'd be risky, I would go:
8-3
6-27
5-53 when healthy. Sutter never would, so best we can hope for is:
8-3
6-27
5-52
I think McBain and Schenn could be passable, and at least Schenn is not as slow as Scuderi.
Andreoff skates well, hits well, and has been productive.
Once we are fully healthy, don't see how he keeps a spot though. I think Shore is the right option for 4c for the playoffs, he is so defensively responsible and smart. If you are including Shore, that means 2 of King, Clifford, and Andreoff are sitting. He probably still rates 3rd there. I'd honestly go (when healthy) and try:
17-11-10
70-77-73
22-44-12
13-21-23
When Brown plays with good players, he is in effect stealing shots from them. Brown is second on team in shots overall (Carter 1st, Toff 3rd) yet his shooting percentage is only ahead of Lewis, Shore, and Clifford among the forwards.
When Brown is shooting at 5.2% and AK is 14.6, ML 15.6, TP 10.5, VL 17.5, those are really the players that should be shooting the puck. I don't begrudge Brown, but considering we roll 4 lines I'd let him hit and take the majority of shots with the 4th liners, and still ice him on the PK. |

I agree with a lot of what you said in your response, but I seriously can't stand record WOWY. They are so overly simplistic and do not take into account things they should and things that actually matter. You could probably run one W/ Tanner glass and WO and it would come across as positive even though he is a brutal player.
Sorry, didn't mean to use you as an example, I just hate that line of logic |

Down here in San Diego the only feed of the game is with the Ducks announcers. Listening to Hayward is making me physically ill. |

Highlight of the night for him, Schenn and Getzlaf fight so he says that what needs to happen is for Stoner to just go grab Kopitar "to send a message." They were trying to make it sound like Schenn is a career enforcer and Getzlaf is just their poor defenseless superstar. |

If you pay attention, you will notice that Jim Fox never wears his Stanley Cup rings, except when they do a joint broadcast with the Suck. Who will ever forget Hayturd telling Fix in 2012 that the Kings would never win the Cup and he knew this because... and then holds up his hand with the 2007 Cup ring on it. But I will never forget a joint broadcast in 2014, after the Kings won their second Cup (yes, for Sucks fans, that means "2", which is the double of "1"), when Hayturd was ranting (as usual), and Fox made a counterpoint and supported it by showing BOTH of his rings. One of the few times I have seen Hayturd speechless. Should be interesting to see how the Kings playoffs go since we are not used to having home ice advantage, which is a bug deal for a puck possession team. |

Hey old buddy. I would've preferred SJ to NASH. I think the ducks are going to whip SJ in 5. I hope I'm wrong though. |

We haven't won anything yet. Winnipeg should not be underestimated. |

win or lose it'll be either NAS or SJ, right? And I would rather play SJ. If we end up playing NASH it'll be a very tough round (and if we get through) followed by a brutal 2nd round with what I believe will be a rested ANA team, who I see as beating SJ in 5. never said anything was won or determined, but thanks for pointing it out. |

Thanks. I've been saying something similar for the last year, that McBain is better than he's typically given credit for. In fact, Jason put down my suggestion earlier in the year that McBain and Muzzin are similar players (minus Muzzin's physical element) when he was being hard on McBain. It's nice seeing him being more complimentary now and hearing you giving him praise, as well. It's not that McBain is so great. It's simply that he's not so much different or worse than Muzzin and Martinez, two similar players (defensemen who aren't too sound defensively, but make up for it by being rather good offensively) who have gotten a lot more opportunity (in terms of ice time and linemates) than McBain has gotten.
Some might be surprised to learn that, of the three of them, McBain has the best Corsi per 60 minutes and +/- per games played. Of course, he's highly sheltered, but he also receives less opportunity (for example, he never plays with Doughty), which more or less cancel out, IMO. Also, those are two stats that tend to down as you move down the pairings and lines, not up, so that's perhaps an indication that he can handle more than he's been given. All of this suggests that he might fill in much better for either of those two players than some may think, and we're starting to see it with Martinez out, IMO. It also supports the idea that, after Doughty, LA's defensemen are largely interchangeable, another thing that I've been ridiculed around here for saying in the past.
I agree with a lot of what you said in your response, but I seriously can't stand record WOWY. While I agree, that's the case with every stat, which is inherently "overly simplistic" if you're making judgments on it without taking into account the other factors that you alluded to. Even the popular stat-of-the-moment, Corsi, is the same way. Brown is not a good player, but he consistently has one of the best Corsis in the league. McBain, whom we're talking about here and is currently LA's #6D, has better Corsi than Erik Karlsson, Ottawa's #1D, yet who wouldn't much rather have Karlsson? Honestly, Corsi is hardly any more reliable on its own than the stat that it was designed to improve upon, +/-. It's not wise to take any stat at face value. The only way to make an accurate judgment is to take into account multiple stats and look at them in a number of different contexts. |

I, too, wanted to avoid an LA-NSH matchup. In fact, for 20 long years, I wanted LA to finally win their bloody division and the one time that it looks like they probably will is the first year that I don't want them to. I can't win.

Fox and Hayward are good friends and like to rib each other. It's their schtick, since they like each other and that's that friends do and because it's great for playing up the rivalry. In fact, a few years ago, there was a segment with them that was done purely to play up the schtick, with each "trash talking" the other. They do it to play up the rivalry and add to the entertainment. Don't take it seriously. I'm not a fan of either (they're both homers and can easily get on anyone's nerves), but I guarantee you that neither of them are the jerks that the incidents that you (or I) described make them look like. It's all in good fun. |
