I'd do that deal

I cant think of any other top pairing RHD that has a sweet contract like Hamonic does

Closest I can think off the top of my head would be an Ekblad but that's just because he's on ELC.

Stralman in Tampa. Hamonic is better IMO, but Stralman is locked in with a good deal and plays up to 25 mins a night for $4.5m... good deal

I'd say that the best D contract period (non-ELC) is Roman Josi... top quality player locked in at $4m for about 5 more years... genius move by Nashville

Can't say the team is even close to tanking. They're trying their hardest but keep getting sh!t on with injuries.

Yeah I know, it's just that I think the leafs need a guy like Matthews more than anybody else who'll go in the top 5. The oilers strength is down the middle. Nice problem to have.

You can have him. If we win it, it had better be moved.

That would be one hell of a trading chip.

That alone could potentially bring in an Elite/Top #2 Defender.

I'd say that alone could get Hamonic +, Shattenkirk, Trouba, Brodin +, and maybe even more.

However, I wonder if Chia wants to get Hamilton in an Oilers jersey, especially after what happened last offseason. He has a great contract as well; 6 years at 5.7mill.

I would consider Fayne, 2nd rounder, and a 1st pick (If it is within the Top 5) package involved in acquiring Hamilton, not a trade, but an idea of what it would take . He is EXACTLY what Edmonton needs. He is a 6'6'', right shot defender who can definitely be our Top #2 defender on that right side for years to come. The fact that Calgary got him gives me acid reflux everytime I think about it.

Hamilton @ 6years for 5.7mill?

Not to mention he originally wanted 7+mill.

What a steal for Calgary!

I dont think thats entirely accurate, media speculation running wild.
Just like apparently Trouba is asking 7m...these agents or player camps leak these hypothetical numbers out just to get the ball rolling to gauge reaction. No one is a 7m dman coming off their ELC, Ekblad is probably the only guy to justify that.

You're probably right, however, I would not have been surprised if Hamilton did get a contract for 7mill+. He has almost every single tool a defender needs; size, strength, good shot, amazing passing, great skating, good defensive instincts, and he is ONLY 22.

He has being playing well this season, considering how well Calgary is doing as a whole.
With 30 points in 62 games, I'd say he has been able to have a really good season as a defender, not to mention from the limited times I've been able to watch, he is a dominant figure on the ice in nearly every shift he plays.

He had trouble understanding Calgary's system to start out, but he has come on strong the second part of the season.

I have no legs to stand on when saying this, but it really seems like Sweeney sent DH to Calgary as a Frank you to Chia. I only say this as most of the league had no clue he was being shopped.

poop luck with Davidson.

I like Dougie, but hes not worth 7m at this point in his career. Hardly any dman in the league is worth that. If young dman are asking that kind of money off their ELC, I would hope my team tells them to pound sand. You wont be able to build a competitive roster if every pretty good dman is asking for top dollar.

Flames paid fair value for him on his current contract. Thats exactly what I think hes worth, hovering around the 6m mark.

Im pretty sure thats confirmed since it was reported the Oilers offered a better pick package than the Flames and the Bruins still wanted Nurse as part of the deal.

There's still a good chance he earns that contract and then some, but at present, it's far from a steal

He was overhyped with serious holes in his game coming over from Boston. The media is such a hype machine it's ridiculous.
Sounds like he's acclimatizing himself to calgarys system and playing better than he did the first few months, but he's only been worth a portion of those dollars this year

I don't consider the first for him

He could end up being a steal at 5.7 mil and wouldnt be surprised if he was in the end but Hamonic is almost 2 mil cheaper at 3.8 per year for the next 4 years....all I was suggesting is no matter what Snow wants for him you wont find a top pairing RHD for that cheap unless the player is still on his ELC

Hamonic is a better player and gives you better bang for your buck cap wise. If Snow will take Eberle straight up I would do it.

I would and here is why. He is not overhyped at all. He does have some holes in his game, but he is ONLY 22 (However, I would see Chia get more out of the trade, depending on where exactly we are drafting).

He is a 6'6'' defender who can shoot the puck really well, play a great transitional game, play physically, is aggressive, has good defensive coverage, and he is STILL developing.

Not only that, but he is on a contract that will make Calgary look like theives in a few years. Every player has holes and patches that need development, not to mention defenders take much more time to develop.

Most GM's dream of having a hamilton on their team and with good reason.
