Gotta think Provorov and Sanheim play a large part in these numbers since they log so many minutes.

How could the Hawks be so good in the NHL and be mediocre in Juniors?

Why aren't people talking about this more?!

so groin pull? sprained ankle? obviously the team hasn't said what exactly the injury is, but what's the word around the campfire?

Love how a "maintenance day" turned into IR.

Well with Couturier out long term, the playoffs are now a pipe dream. Play some kids, trade some d-men for assets. And for the love of god stop playing RJ Umberger.

Couturier being placed on IR does not mean that he will be out long term. IR is a minimum of 7 days, and it can be retroactive. Placing him on IR simply gives the Flyers some roster flexibility.

I feel like the flyers need some kind of veteran defensive leadership. If you trade Schultz and Streit who's left?

Exactly. It's simple, isn't it? They need all of this flexibility for roster shuffling during the All Star Break.

NHL locked Bettman up through 2022. Apparantely NHL brought Holmer in as a special adviser to get the deal done

Yes it is simple. It means Couturier is not going to play Tuesday, and the Flyers might want to make some roster moves.

I'll explain it for you. With Couturier injured, not able to play, and not on IR, the Flyers have 14 forwards, 7 Defenseman, and 2 goalies on the roster. That adds up to 23, which is the roster limit. Placing a player on IR gives the team a roster exemption, which means they can now call up a player if they choose to, for next week.

But I guess it's better to panic.

It's a little strange that they'd do it if he's only going to miss a short period of time. They already have 13 forwards on the active roster.

They may want a different player in the lineup. It simply gives them flexibility. It does not mean that Couturier is going to be out long term, it only means that he won't be ready to play for the next game. They can activate Couturier tomorrow. We don't know the time frame until they tell us. It's certainly not good news, but it's not a reason to give up on the season either.

would like to see (in Couturier's absence), the top 2 lines:

Voracek - Giroux - Raffl
Read - Schenn - Simmonds

OR

Read - Giroux - Simmonds
Voracek - Schenn - Raffl

Hope his injury isn't too serious

I have liked Simmonds on the top line with G and Jake. Read hasn't played up to a top 6 assignment of late...well, for awhile actually.

I like the big line as well, but there's no balance with Couturier out.
Looking at Read's numbers, the 3 good seasons he's had, (including lockout), his shooting % was around 15,16%
The last year and a half it's like half that much, (8%), or around that.
I say move him up and increase his minutes, it's not like we have anyone else to go with. He's been playing much better since his scratch, but how can he produce on a line with 2 other struggling forwards?

Read may not be scoring a lot, but he has been playing really well overall.

I don't think Shultz gets dealt. Streit may be the only tradeable piece on the defensive side that has any value.
- Pelle31Forever

What do you guys think Gudas 's value would be? He is a cheap rental and has been playing pretty well in top 4 minutes. He is a righty. I'd think I'd rather keep him as he brings some needed toughness and a right hander, but wonder if as a trading deadline pick up he could bring a 2nd+4th round pick? Or even a late round 1st (which seems like a pipe dream).

Would you consider trading him?
