I heard that. I bet the Bruins wish they still had Dougie Hamilton now. Milbury was saying how the Bruins should decrease Chara's ice time. Ok.... And give it to who? Kevan Miller? Milbury is such an asshat.

He is, but he always has been so I am not sure why people get that worked up over it. He is clearly paid to push buttons and create controversy and very rarely does he have anything insightful and thought provoking to say.

I was surprised that he was so against fighting

One thing to say things that will stir the pot, but he says such asinine things that don't even make sense. Not to mention his absurd comments at the 2010 Olympics, and his reprehensible behavior putting his hands on that young kid. How this guy stays employed is beyond me.

"An underrated key to their resurgence has been their relative stinginess at 5-on-5. Through 41 games, the Flyers have given up just 61 five-on-five goals; that puts them in the top five in the league in terms of lowest 5-on-5 GAA per game."

I did not realize this but it makes sense from what I've seen of their play recently. Thanks for this insight Bill.

Great comeback win last night!

In sadder news, RIP Alan Rickman

That was a game we prob should have lost but good for the boys to pull through it. The power play is a real mess. It's frustrating, there is little to no movement and they can't do much of anything at all unless their setup in their 1-3-1

A change is needed and I haven't seen so much as a new wrinkle in it

while I also want to see weal maybe he just hasn't done the things needed in practice or what not. Could be the coach isn't comfortable with him yet.

we all know rj has no future role. so from that pov they need to get weal in too see if he does have any role going forward.

so glad the flyers were able to control rinaldo. he had me really worried going into the game.

Which idiot play by play man ( not Emrick) was the Bruins apologist listing the woes of the poor Bruins missing so many player and so many players traded or whatever swill he was stating? I mean he even was talking about Lucic like he was injured or grouped in with others not there and the poor coach remolding the team. Give me a break....
- Steelmanpa

They really are missing lucic and hamilton... Not the team they were two years ago.

Hamilton for sure. But I think they miss Krejci right now a lot more than they miss Lucic.

At the halfway point now....

It's a good time to for me revisit expectations I had for a few players prior to this season...

Couts -- He's been great this year. While he point streak stopped last night, his level of play did not drop. He's been aggressive. This is the type of play I expected from him throughout the year. In 35 games he has 20 points (Mid 40ies expanded to an 82 game season), and while with a player like Couts, it's not ALL about points, but it certainly isn't NOT about points either (I know double negative). I've been happy with his play this year.

Schenn -- He's been the same player that he's been the last 4-5 years he's been playing in the NHL. He's got 21 points in 39 games (Mid 40ies over 82 game). Points are a big part of Schenn's game, as he doesn't have that two-way prowess he once had in Juniors. He goes on scoring streaks, then goes missing for 10 games. It looks like he's found a place he likes on the RW so hopefully he can change those 10 games to only 3 games. I fear however, the he's what he is at this point in his career, but I reserve my right at the end of the year to evaluate...I hope he proofs me wrong.

G,Voracek and Simmonds -- To me they all have come as advertised. They have been playing well. Yes, there scoring is down, but they all are playing their balls off, G in particular has stepped up his play. It's unfortunate that he (and to a degree, Voracek) don't have the point totals to reflect their play.

Umberger -- He has been getting shredded on this site, but he has been a major improvement over last season. He's actually playing okay hockey. That doesn't mean I wouldn't mind seeing him be scratched to see what Weal can do.

MDZ -- To me he's been playing pretty good hockey, too. If the season ended now, he'd be the Barry Ashbee Trophy winner. He's playing over his head, in my mind. Probably a bit like Schultz last year. Hopefully, we don't see him fall back down to earth.

I have really liked these recent line combinations. I'm thinking they have finally found the "right mix" and the chemistry seems to be there. (Until they go on a rough stretch and mix it up again.)

How does he even have a job? Was it his stellar coaching career? Maybe his even more stellar stint as a GM?

The world may never know.

On pace for 90 pts. Not shocking but how we got there is way different than prior years. A strong 5 vs 5 team and poor on special teams. I'll take that every day of the week rather than the other way around. I didn't think Hak could make this team look so strong at evens but he has. He's had a great start

I guess he somehow appeals to the national casual fan. He was like a sideshow clown to me for a while but he has this grudge with mason and it's nauseating. Especially when as a gm he gave out one of the most horrid contracts to a goaltender ever.

It was a good comeback. They were probably the better team for about 40 minutes, but Mason was strong and they were able to limit the damage. Very nicely done.

Okay, now onto my Schultz mini-tirade. Yes, as many others have said, you don't play 1000 games because you're terrible. All that said, it doesn't mean that he STILL isn't terrible. The guy is just clueless when he has the puck. Perfect example: Last night, when Boston had the goalie pulled, they dumped the puck into his corner. He got the puck and had a good 1-2 seconds (an eternity in the NHL) to decide what to do. At the very least, you need to elevate the puck and flip it out to center, which, honestly, I can do. What does he do??? The only thing he knows: blindly wrap it around the boards and hope for the best. The Bruins sealed said boards and almost tied the game.

He's been a good player for the majority of his career, but I think he has about run his course. All the props in the world on your 1000 games, but much like Cal Ripken when he was chasing Gherig, you shouldn't keep getting to play based on your past years when you're clearly a shadow of what you were.

I didn't the the Wade Flaherty deal was all that bad.

From Wikipedia:

He traded away defensemen Zdeno Chara, Wade Redden, Bryan Berard, Eric Brewer, Darius Kasparaitis, and Bryan McCabe; goaltenders Roberto Luongo and Tommy Salo; as well as forwards Olli Jokinen, Todd Bertuzzi, Tim Connolly, and Raffi Torres. Milbury has also come under fire for his poor draft-day decisions such as choosing Rick DiPietro first overall in 2000 over Dany Heatley and Marian Gaborik, as well as his decision to include the 2001 second overall draft pick (Jason Spezza) as part of the Alexei Yashin trade.

One of these is not like the others.

I wonder if now he could be sat since he got to 1000 games. I thought Manning has played well since being placed in the lineup and once Gostisbehere is back could Schultz sit.

Also I need to see Weal in the lineup over Vandevelde or Umberger. Vandevelde killed me by missing the empty net.

I don't think Weal cracks the lineup during a 4 game winning streak. He's going to have to wait for a downturn in results or injury.

probably so. Seems like Hakstol keeps the lineup the same when winning. (As do most coaches) Although if he's ready to play Saturday I'm sure Ghost will be back in there.

Missed the game, and damn seemed like a good one to catch.

Always happy seeing that Giroux grin after a goal scoring sequence.

I am not really a fan of Hak, but for overall team play, have to give credit where it is due.

Huge win. Don't want to give up points to a team you're trying to leap in the standings. Nice to see your stars playing like stars.

I was at the game, but it's no surprise reading the posts to see Millbury rant on Mason. Almost like the guy needs a 0.00 GAA to keep that clown off his back.

After that Simmonds goal to tie the game, Simmonds and Voracek are behind the net celebrating and Giroux jumps in so excited it was like he was a little kid seeing his parents after 3 years.

I love seeing that kind of emotion from the Captain, that is when you know he is on.
