Watched a good part of the game with the sound muted, since I was trying to work (not very effective, lol) ... and I agree that Boston carried the play for the most part. Real nice 3rd period, though, and getting the 2 points in regulation was big.

Haven't been able to keep up with the latest Flyers news, so I'm not sure when Ghost is back ... but I hope it's soon. The kid makes a big difference, in my eyes.

Boston decidedly had the better of the play along the walls for much of the game but the Flyers were more opportunistic. Late in the game, both Sean Couturier and Matt Read had good cracks at empty net with Rask pulled for an extra attacker, but both were unable to convert. The Flyers did not end up regretful, as they killed off the rest of the clock.

Poor Raffl, always overlooked.

But Read definitely had a great opportunity to lock up the game and get an easy goal.

Mason was really brilliant, even though assclown Milbury tried like Hell to blame him for the first goal. Mason had no choice but to play the puck prior to the turnover, as the Bruins were beating the Flyers into the zone and the line change was botched.

The resiliency shown in the third was impressive. The Bruins hemmed the Flyers in at times, but The Flyers generated good pressure of their own.

The PP was out of sorts and the PK has been routinely getting caught leaving a guy all alone on the door step and it happened again tonight on the second Boston tally.

i got to see the game up until the tying goal. listened to the final 6 minutes on the radio. huge win. while they didn't generate a lot of chances in the first they played an aggressive, emotional, engaged, but CONTROLLED game. i think that's when they're at their best. in the second and for a lot of what i saw in the third, they seemed less engaged and weren't trying to dictate and they fell behind. they seemed to be too cute anytime they got near the net and didn't end up generating anything. finally simmonds did the right thing by shooting and scored on the rebound.

one thing is obvious: the team is not as good without gost. i felt they missed him badly, especially on the pp. he adds a dimension that no one else has.

anyway, nice to see them grind out a regulation win against a team ahead of them, particularly after yet another break in the schedule.

(frank) milbury. i knew he would blame mason for that goal. sure, he could have cleared the zone, but he didn't get a ton on it and it came off the glass, the puck stayed in and he got beaten by a great shot. he might have tried reversing on his backhand but there was a chance it would have been blocked by the forechecker. it was the right move. it happens.

like a dman has never failed to clear the zone before. like a player has never beaten a fan with a shoe before. (frank) you, Richardface.

As far as PO chances, this regulation win was a HUGE game. Flyers have played less games than all teams above them and BOS was a team they need to pass. Don't look now but a few more wins in a row and we'll need to put off all the draft and selling off vets talk. You have to love the parity in the league these days. Makes for a much more entertaining league.

So can Weal replace Vandevelde or Umberger yet? Vandevelde missed a great chance on that pass from White in the 2nd period.

Won't let me quote but frank Milbury; before the game he even said he hated the flyers organization. Great game. Thought Medvedev had a strong game generating chances. What a beast of a hit by B Schenn.

That's a game they almost loose automatically last year. Great win, but I really think one or two of the teams about us will really have to crap the bed in order to jump into a playoff spot.
Also dispatching RJ to Vinny suite will help the cause. It's painful to watch a 4.6M dollar player go almost 50 games without a goal

At the halfway point now....

It's a good time to for me revisit expectations I had for a few players prior to this season...

Couts -- He's been great this year. While he point streak stopped last night, his level of play did not drop. He's been aggressive. This is the type of play I expected from him throughout the year. In 35 games he has 20 points (Mid 40ies expanded to an 82 game season), and while with a player like Couts, it's not ALL about points, but it certainly isn't NOT about points either (I know double negative). I've been happy with his play this year.

Schenn -- He's been the same player that he's been the last 4-5 years he's been playing in the NHL. He's got 21 points in 39 games (Mid 40ies over 82 game). Points are a big part of Schenn's game, as he doesn't have that two-way prowess he once had in Juniors. He goes on scoring streaks, then goes missing for 10 games. It looks like he's found a place he likes on the RW so hopefully he can change those 10 games to only 3 games. I fear however, the he's what he is at this point in his career, but I reserve my right at the end of the year to evaluate...I hope he proofs me wrong.

G,Voracek and Simmonds -- To me they all have come as advertised. They have been playing well. Yes, there scoring is down, but they all are playing their balls off, G in particular has stepped up his play. It's unfortunate that he (and to a degree, Voracek) don't have the point totals to reflect their play.

Umberger -- He has been getting shredded on this site, but he has been a major improvement over last season. He's actually playing okay hockey. That doesn't mean I wouldn't mind seeing him be scratched to see what Weal can do.

MDZ -- To me he's been playing pretty good hockey, too. If the season ended now, he'd be the Barry Ashbee Trophy winner. He's playing over his head, in my mind. Probably a bit like Schultz last year. Hopefully, we don't see him fall back down to earth.


I'll probably add a couple more later, but I gotta work now.

I've played Flyers jersey numbers plenty of times in the lottery.

If only I would have come up with Ashbee, Recchi, Renberg, Hextall, Vanbiesbrouck, and Leclair yesterday. It seems so simple now.
