I certainly don't think you should have anarchy out there, but you know, fights happen. Let the fight happen, and then move on. An extra two minutes and a 10 minute misconduct is far too punitive in my opinion.
- MJL

On the other side of it (and not at all in reference to the Schenn hit), the instigator rule was intended to put the onus of punishing players who cross the line is on the NHL rather than the players. X years into the instigator rule era, I don't think the league has lived up to that expectation.

I don't wanna be unfair but I'm just not a Vandevelde guy. Beautiful pass by White but I wasn't as upset with that miss as I was with the blind pass on the rush.
- SuperSchennBros

That drop pass was stupid but we were down 2-1 at that point. Game tying goal would have been huge, watching the game live you have no idea if we're going to score again. Thank God the first line decided to play like a first line should. Simmers goal, my goodness, what a play and follow up.

Also, it takes skill to miss a wide-open net by shooting it cross-crease when you have the puck 1 foot from the goal line and are facing the goal.

That I will focus on the wrong points of the argument, is just your opinion. Which is no different than what I'm doing, which is offering an opinion. Difference is, my actual focus is on the actual play, rather than the poster.
- MJL

If I am trying to make a point, that is the point you need to focus on in order to have a discussion which I am happy to do. But, if you want to make a different point, then it's a discussion about something else, not the original point.

While I like what I've seen recently, I'm sticking with my preseason prediction that they will not make the playoffs this season.

I did some digging in relation to their so called horrible offense and goal scoring stats.

October they ranked 28th in GF/G and had a G diff/g of -0.9
November 30th and -0.79
December 13th and 0
January 5th and 1.2

Corey Pronman prospect rankings

Provorov #17
Konecny #23
Lindblom #37

No one else in the top 50. Sanheim is honorable mention (first 10 out)

For goalies, he has Sandstrom ranked #6 and Stolarz #10

Stick to that prediction so you don't want to blow your brains out when we win the next 8 in a row then lose the following 20 in a row

Daniel Sprong ranks # 4 overall on the list. He trails only Dylan Strome, Mitch Marner, and William Nylander.

That is embarassing to put sprong that high. I guess if the flyers rushed provorov he'd be much higher too. What a joke

I guess mcdavid, eichel have graduated?

@ESPN_Burnside: Most of the news surrounding the Flyers this season has been the ongoing work by GM Ron Hextall in digging the Flyers out of salary-cap hell.

hyperbole and overblown.

@ESPNJoeyMac: In past seasons, any time we've discussed the Flyers it always comes down to goaltending....I think it'll come down to goaltending again. Michal Neuvirth and Steve Mason are a solid pair between the pipes, even though their records may not indicate that, so to Craig's point, I agree that the Flyers are not there yet. Unless Neuvirth or Mason can step up and carry the team themselves the rest of the way.

I agree, and I think it's really a bad philosophy. For the simple reason that even if a player is suspended for something, in the eyes of the players, they won't be satisfied with that.

One quote by the media on the salary cap is fact, but another quote by the media on goaltending, is not?

I'd say both are hyperbole.

You responded to a question I asked, "Before the fight happened, do you think Miller did anything that deserved a penalty?" , with "By the letter of the law, yes he did." I asked what? My contention is that if the fight did not happen, there would not of been a penalty called on either player.
