Solid win last night..
You arent going to be the better team every night but that doesnt mean you cant win.
I think right now the big difference between vs last year Flyers is they are actually a solid ES team. Additionally they seem to have found a second line all while stacking their first line with their 3 best players.
I actually am becoming more of a fan of Hak because he is getting results. Change his name to Babcock or Bowman and everyone would be praising each move he makes. At this point the team seems very calm and stable. |

HUH? I was watching the game last night thinking the exact opposite. I like that we can put them out against any line the other team throws out there. They are always hemming the opposition in their own zone. Agree to disagree. - MBFlyerfan
That's not accurate.

I don't think Bellemare is a very good offensive player either. - SuperSchennBros
He's not going to be a goal scorer, but I think we're defining offense differently. He uses his speed to get in on the forecheck and carry the puck into the offensive zone. To me, that is generating offense even if it doesn't result in shots/goals. |

If you want an example of a 4th line that actually hems other teams in their own zone, look at the Islanders 4th line of Martin-Ciszkas-Clutterbuck.

Martin is the type of UFA winger we should be trying to replace VdV with in the offseason. |

Who the hell is this Miller guy? Dude seems like a pretty nasty player, honestly. He fought Schenn, whatever. But there was a lot of times post-whistle where he was knocking guys over with high cross-checks and, in some cases, straight-up punching dudes. Guy would be loved (and lead the league in PIM) were he a Flyer. |

Yeah, but then you'd have to have Matt Martin as part of your team. No thank you. |

He's an AHL level dman, who Bruin fans say has no business playing in the NHL. |

Sorry if this has been discussed, but how did Miller not get an instigator on that fight with Schenn? Clean hit, picks a fight = instigator. How many times this year have we seen a Flyer get an instigator when standing up for a teammate after a borderline hit? |

He's terrible. The Bruins have been crippled by injuries. Krejci, McQuaid, and Kelly are really missed from their lineup. My heart bleeds for them. |

Well you brought it up. The names that I named being specialists and this is the perfect word to describe those names. We shouldn't under value the specialists in the league. We could use a couple now in my opinion. I was proud when we picked up Adam Hall for example. Penalty killer. Solid faceoff man. Blair Betts the same. There was a time for years where we were dangerous shorthanded and it wasn't all Mike Richards. |

I also want to give some credit to the coach. It takes time for players to adjust to a new system and now they are really playing their roles well, especially at even strength.
Also I think we finally have the top two lines set just about as good as can be with this personnel. Big credit for getting Jake back with G and trying him on LW. Also Schenn on RW Couts seems ideal for Brayden, a guy who has moved around more then anyone.
I don't think Weal comes in until there is an injury in the top six. I am afraid because of his size and skill set he won't get a shot in the bottom six, although I could see Read/Laughts/Weal being a nice line potentially.
Ghost should propel the PP to better results when back.
I am not as hopeful they will fix the PK this season. The trade to LA was great but it does hurt the PK losing Luke, IMO. |

I think if Adam Hall and Blair Betts were playing 12+ minutes a night you would be singing a different tune |

Well....that is cause the corsi stats were selected...you can switch to goals, which shows that Sam Gagner leads the Flyers in GF/GA |

It's happened twice to Simmonds this year I believe. Someone said it was because schenn dropped thegloves at the same time. I disagree..he went after Schenn and challenged him.. what else is he supposed to do.. Miller should have gotten the instigator. |

My guess is Miller approached Schenn and did not touch him until they both dropped their gloves at the same time.
Had Miller bumped or hit or punched Schenn before Schenn dropped his gloves he would have gotten the instigator.
Alternative explanation is because it's the Flyers. |

That's exactly how I saw it. Schenn accepted the fight, Miller didn't force Schenn into a fight. |

I was gonna bring up losing Luke when some were discussing Schultz play. We finally had two righties and Luke was having a decent year but not good enough as we transition into the new and improved Flyers. With this said, Luke seemed key to getting Vinny's deal dumped, so it is what it is.
I love the Couturier line. I don't want to downplay Raffl because he's been outstanding but where Read is in the line up doesn't sit well with me. In fact it's odd seeing Read being the main screen on the second PP unit, when that seems more suited for Raffl.
Hakstol deseres all the credit in the world for getting Voracek on the left side. Jake looks good. |
