Just gonna make one comment for now. A player can choose to retire whenever he feels like it. Watching Vinny for the last few seasons, it is pretty darn clear that he is done, and the deal that was bartered is really the best case scenario for all parties involved. I am obviously biased, but I don't think the "cap circumvention" term needs to be thrown around. |

I think the point was, as it was widely reported, that Vinnie agreed to retire after this season. It's just rather interesting and unusual. |

Yeah I understand that, but to me that was more from LA Kings side, because everyone would've clearly been saying Why on earth? and this is idiotic! The only way it made sense to acquire VLC is if he agreed to retire.
It gives him a chance to win another cup and allows him to avoid being a healthy scratch for 2 more seasons. The debate among Flyers fans and some media outlets has been whether it was about wanting to play or the money he was making. This move made it clear it is about his desire to go out with his skates on |

Hey Peter,
What do you mean the Jets have no one like Weal? Do you mean an older prospect? Seems the Jets have several better prospects than Weal IMO. |
|

If we assume that this team needs 100 pts to get a playoff spot, that means 60 points over the next 42 games......doesn't seem very likely.
It's getting close to trading time.... |

Expendable prospects that can play for some one else. |

Wouldn't you think Chevy would add a Morrisey or Lemieux to a Buff or Ladd deal if it improves the return dramatically? |

I dont think he would add them, because those are the guys that would be replacing Buff and Ladd, but clearly it is dependent on the return
For some perspective...LA was essentially out of options with Weal because he was exposed to waivers if they sent him down. LA risked losing him for nothing, and went ahead and got luke schenn for him.
Jets will have prospects like him in the future, most likely, but wouldnt necessarily risk losing them because they arent up against the cap right now |

Pistol Pete - first off, I found it somewhat amusing there is a Chlamydia banner ad when opening your blog ... not sure it was worth the mention - but, hey ... perhaps it magically mapped back to my
The point of having ELITE goaltending is to get the help when you can't help yourself
... we can only hope Helley becomes elite
After last year, Chevy has my confidence - he'll make a trade when it favours the Jets .. not a marginal trade, not an even trade ... only when it favours Jets
1. There are 11 centres ahead of Little for pts ... middle of the pack ... Chevy believes he needs depth at C ... not sure if landing another C is as important as landing some better wingers
2. Really don't believe Jets want to trade Trouba at all ... no
3. Adding Schenn to blue line adds nothing we are good with righties on D ... now if we can replace Stuart - different discussion
4. We don't want something bad in a trade - so - maybe forget about Philly
5. I say we keep Byf, trade Ladd ... won't happen/be favourable to us probably up near trade deadline
Thursday nighter away ... the rib-eyes and red are ready to go

Rib eyes and red? If only I was drinking this month I'd walk over!

Hey Pete,
Great article. The main problem for the Jets is that as long as the Atlanta 5 are together, this franchise will go nowhere. Chevy is afraid of the 5 and will not move anyone of them. The real GM of this team is the Atlanta 5. Anyone who thinks otherwise is living under a rock. |

The Atlanta 5 used to be the Atlanta 7 earlier in 2015.
I would trade Ladd Buff and Pavelec. They all suck.
3 years ago I wouldve included Wheeler, but now its plain to see that Wheeler deserves the captaincy.
Ladd has lost more than a step this year. He looks slow.
Furthermore, I would also shop Hutchinson....this year he cant stop anything above his elbows. |

Under the rock there is logic though. Big difference. |

Trade Raslovic a 2nd and Glover for Drouin
Trade Buff and Ladd for best possible deals
this summer, trade for Hamonic and take a run at a free agent or two like Backes, Hamhuis, Goligoski, Erickson, Okposo |
