So we COULD fit Franson in at 5, but if we wanted anything else we would have to move some more salary. - dothedougie
Exactly. Honestly if Franson would take a 2 year 9M deal that would be amazing.
4M this year and 5M next year with a 4.5AAV
Then you have a shade over 1M to play with and also helps to have a little space if a trade is upcoming.
D with CF would still be shaky but could see:
Chara - Franson
Seids - Miller
Krug - McQuaid
Then you have the possibility of guys like Morrow and Colin Miller that could push K. Miller out and fill in for the obvious Lone Wolf injury (why the (frank) did he get that contract, should have been 2M per year for 3 years MAX) |

Maybe we can trade Kelly - dothedougie
If there is a god.... hard with his NMC, he has to approve plus finding someone who wants him to C their L3 for $3M (granted at least it's an exp contract.)
Thing is to move Kells he can be VERY easily replaced in the lineup by a much younger cheaper version.... Don't get me wrong I love what Kelly brings on a nightly basis but 3M is steep for that. |

That too, but I like him and for 2M I would ahve been fine with as a 5-6 dman who plays well with Krug. He got too much money and too much term. He wont play 200 games in his entire new contract. |

I always imagined that if they moved him we would be retaining 1M of it. Still gives us another 2M to play with on the cap. Teams looking for a pk guy for their third line might bite on Kelly for 1 year at 2M......maybe |

I would rather sign Ehrhoff for 2ish than franson for 5. Granted Franson is the FAR better D man. But I don't want to spend over 4 on him. Maybe Sweeney has some dark magic left.
But we still need an NHL caliber backup, so can't spend the whole 5.5 on him. - Charlie.Conway
i'd rather have the better player. |

He already is one, except it starts with a B and he belongs to Neely.
Dont know why, but I was very pleased with myself that that to rhyme. |

We have $5,564,333 available... We need a Dman, a good one at around 4.5M and leave $1.0 available for anything else that may be needed (backup, depth dman etc. ) - MrBeanTown
A little late to the party, but I've been doing, you know... work stuff.
It's worth noting that that number from the HB Cap Central only factors in 12 forwards, 6 d-men, and 1 goalie.... So that's only the starting line up, and it's more than likely we would actually need to fit 3 more players in under our cap (backup goalie and 2 healthy scratches).
If we signed a top 4 d-man, one of the current d-men listed would be a healthy scratch. So if we were to pick up Franson at 5... we'd pretty much be (frank)ed I think. Because then we'd only have like $500k for a forward healthy scratch, and a backup goalie.
Lets say Smith plays backup to Tuukka ($600k) and then we were to call up Ferlin ($875k) thats almost $1.5 million, leaving only about $4million for a top 4 d-man? That doesn't seem to work. So either he's signing Franson for Beleskey money... or we're not signing Franson and we're looking to acquire someone else? |

I'm sure there's plenty... but when we call them up to the NHL they still count against our cap. I think Ferlin is on a 2-way contract, and most people seem to think he can contribute on the 4th line, so that's why I mentioned him. But that would be an $875k cap hit. |

Nah......hmmm. Who could we trade, who could we trade......?
Got it how about Ericksson and or Sedenberg........
Definitely Seidenberg, now that I think of it!
We needed a top 4 before we traded Dougie and nobody thought we would trade him!
Now we argably still need that top 4 and a top 2 as well.............
So let's trade away another top 4!
It will totally take everybody by surprise, and therefore is the right conclusion! |

I don't think he saw your second paragraph, but you are correct about the call ups counting towards the CAP.
I think people forget about that.
And in your example you didn't even include a D-man call up!
So we are going to need $600k for a back-up+ $875k for a forward scratch+ $?(700k) for a D-man scratch........
Almost $2.2 million towards the CAP in just a back-up and two healthy scratches!
So we have around $3.3 million............it's raining cash money in this bi***!
EDIT: if our cap space was currency.....we can afford to add a third line plug like KELLY or SMITH........or maybe a bottom pairing D-man like Quaider!
Yay! |

I was thinking Trotman is already included in our current cap number on the Cap Central page... so I was figuring he would probably be the healthy scratch on D... So that's why I was figuring backup goalie ($600k), plus forward healthy scratch ($875k), plus whoever we choose to sign on D ($4m left over).
But, does anyone know where the "bonus overage" that's almost a million bucks is coming from? |

Ahhhh, I'll have to check that place out. But that is reassuring to hear that they have the same number as what's listed on the Hockeybuzz Cap Central |

Well they actually have some info on generalfanager.com (I love that name ) about the overages, and it looks like most of it's coming from none other than Mr. Dougie himself. So he must have had some bonus money in his contract last year... it also mentions "and others," but it doesn't say who else that money is coming from. |
