Yeah, I don't see him really going anywhere either. Next year they will have extra cap space from Lucic's $2.75 million coming off the books. I don't see him getting a huge raise... maybe in the $4 million range? - mixturebill
likely. he's the best offensive player we have in the back. |

Does anyone else think the Krug's time in Boston is coming to close soon? Mquaid get's a term deal, Seids doesn't appeat to be going anywhere yet and neither is Chara. Bruins have some depth at Defense and Krug's going to be looking to cash in at the end of this season..... could spell bye bye to the little guy... - Burnsy613
definitely not. signed a bridge deal so he can prove his worth as a top 4. hope he's here a while. |

Scary part about Krug is him only taking a ONE year bridge deal instead of the the two that management probably wanted him to take, just like Smith's deal.
If Krug wants a PROVE IT one year deal at $3.5.......what is he thinking about money wise after another good season?
He has to be looking at $4 - 5 per....! That's crazy money for a bottom pairing PP specialist!
If only we had another young buck that could control the back end on the PP........(DH cough, cough.) |

If I remember correctly, when krug signed his deal he wanted to prove he was a top 4 d man. So if he gets top 4 minutes this year, and succeeds, 4-5 would be about right. If he fails, and falls back into that third pairing specialist position, I think somewhere around 4 or less could be a range on a long term deal. Or a trade. So we will see how he handles top 4 minutes. I think he will get his shot at it. |

My couch GM guess. He puts up very good numbers on the offensive side of the rink, he had 39 points last season.
Hamilton had 42 points and was injured for a ten.
The top D-man in the NHL had 66pts Karlsson, and second was 60pts Subban and Burns. Wideman had 56 a few at 55 and then it peters off from there.
Krug was 29th on D-man scoring last season, again with only 39.
Krug will absorbe the PP time that Hamilton had last season and is going to put up well over 50 points.
I bet he is a league leader, top five, in D-man scoring. But he will be a liability in the D-zone.
So.......top five D-man in scoring but a D liability.......he will want $5.5 per for five years and he will be gone.

As is tradition.
(Trading him at that point will be a move I agree with.....as opposed to the other guy) |

Anyone hear anything else about a possible Franson deal? Haven't heard any chatter besides what Ek posted, which as we all know can be as reliable as a Fiat. |

I was wondering the same thing.... only other thing I could find was a tweet from Dale Arnold:
Dale Arnold @DaleEArnold Jul 6
My buddy @lbwaaf says @NHLBruins have an agreement with D Cody Franson. If true, good addition by Don Sweeney.
which was then followed up by:
Dale Arnold @DaleEArnold Jul 6
Apparently @lbwaaf has taken down the Cody Franson post on Facebook, and @RochieWBZ says report is not true.

Could all be nonsense........but, right now would we be able to afford his "under" the cap? Line of thinking would be ..........
If we were to have an agreement with him I can't see it under the market rate of $5.5 per..........maybe Sales Man Don can sell him for $5 per short term.....?
Heard he was willing to take lesser TERM and MONEY to play for a contender......but doubt that's a Belesky deal.
So if we get him for $5 we are over the salary cap and would NEED to make a trade to get under.........that would allow leverage for any trade partners to use against us.
Maybe Donny is looking for a trade partner before "inking" an official deal?
Chicago is doing the same thing right now with Oduya and Kruger!
In fact maybe everyone is waiting for the Sharp, Crawford or (now rumors of) Seabrook and Shaw shoe to drop and then dominos fallow...........?
If the Hawks don't make a deal maybe they try for Oduya........? He would be a little cheaper. |

We have $5,564,333 available... We need a Dman, a good one at around 4.5M and leave $1.0 available for anything else that may be needed (backup, depth dman etc. ) |

So we COULD fit Franson in at 5, but if we wanted anything else we would have to move some more salary. |

I would rather sign Ehrhoff for 2ish than franson for 5. Granted Franson is the FAR better D man. But I don't want to spend over 4 on him. Maybe Sweeney has some dark magic left.
But we still need an NHL caliber backup, so can't spend the whole 5.5 on him. |
