If they win a cup, will 12-15 years be worth it?
I've been waiting for 24, and only seen my team realilistically compete for 2 in that time period. - I-own_da-Northwest
Big if. They should of had plenty of talent to already be competing. |

I don't know the answer to this but how many teams have been to the Cup finals twice in the past 24 years? |

I am saying that too. I pointed out the rebuild teams that have won recently had
Crosby Malkin
Perry Getzlaf
Toews Kane
Doughty plus Kopitar not a top 5 pick.
After that surround the team with good players. - VANTEL
Yup for sure, keep in mind we've had four first round picks in the past two years, including a 9th & 6th overall. Now those are not franchise players but they're laying a good foundation for the Canucks. |

I like what the Canucks are doing . I just don't like the old core. Nothing will change that . They had their time. It's time to get modern again . That's all I am female doging about |

Not sure fans appreciate this but the Canucks are in a group of ~ 1/3 of teams that have done it, unfortunately they didn't win either time.

I'm with you, I long for the days when our team is full of youth. I just understand it takes time to accomplish that.
You only get seven picks a year and the rule of thumb is, if you select two players that play more than 100 NHL games you've done well. |

The definition of tanking to me is playing to lose. Now if you have a veteran team and only a few rookie type players you're going to stay competitive. It may make your roster better and with the right mix it might get you cup.
On the other hand if your team is too aged or been together to long it may only give the illusion that your team is better. There comes a time when you need to part ways with veterans and go with younger players. Is this tanking no.
If said players compete every night but just are not there yet it is not tanking its learning and gaining experience. When young team gets to a point you bring in the right veterans to get them to their peak of excellence.
Building through drafting. Is JB going to do that over night no. Time people and patience. JB gave the veterans a chance and couldn't do it. He will be asking players to move. This team will get younger. Yes we will lose some games but we will have a young team that tries every night works hard and plays a fast pace exciting game of hockey.
All that said my definition of tanking is a lot different from some on here. |

Tanking is a managerial decision. As an example, Edmonton's young players were not tanking last year, they were trying their damnedest to win but they finished 3rd last. Won the lottery, good on them. |

The sad part for them is the management couldn't attract any decent vets or the management is just $hitty. I think Edmonton is a mixture of both.
Also when the best veteran player you have is Hendrix your not winning many game. I love his game but come on.
PS thanks for separating my paragraphs. |

So 3-4 years, best case 2, if Daniel has a really good year.

I'd like to see how well teams do that hold onto their draft picks, or draft a minimum of 7 players per draft. These last couple drafts have helped a lot. Restocking the prospect pool- better quality.
I understand the desire to want to pick top 5, but if you are holding most or all your picks every draft, you have to be hitting some talent or you need a new scouting staff, regardless of where you are picking. |

What really scares me is that in 2 years, the players can open the CBA for renegotiation, which may change things. A rebuild now might be a worst case scenario if the rules change again like they did when Luongo-type contracts were essentially made illegal and penalized. I can see players looking at the salary cap and the economy being bad and losing 15% on their contracts every year to escrow and removing the RFA status and making players UFA after their ELCs are up. That could potentially screw us as Horvat, Virtanen, McCann and Cassels will all be up for new contracts then. |

Nice to be able to lift your rebuild to the sky by winning a lottery and taking a generational player as lefty calls them.

After last season's draft... I get the feeling there will be many Canucks fans unsatisfied with this one....
You just have to keep things in perspective. |

Depends on who is available at 23 for me. I have 4 guys I think could be available and if the my favorite out of the 4 or the least favorite out of the 4 is available I'm happy if JB takes one if well f@ckit. |

If the right d-man isn't available, I have a feeling we take Harkins, I watched him play 3x this year, so I'd be alright with him. |

Only Horvat has even made the team. |
