I am sorry but a week before the draft. Probably the most exciting time for Oilers fans since 2007, there should be a blog every day. Oilers have 5 picks in the top 63. They need a goalie and they need to add at least one strong defender while Schultz, Nurse, Klef and Marincin develop. Nikitin, Ference and Fayne are not top 2 defenders by any stretch and some could argue that they are all 5-6 guys or role players. I hope the Oilers send Scrivens to play for High Level and add two tenders. I think the Oilers are in a unique place to part with picks to add long term talent. Their core guys have at least a decade left in all of them. Plenty of time to develop rookies down the road. I would like to see them grab Anderson and Talbot. With the apparent value of draft picks, this should be doable.

Speaking about Sens players, I really would target Jared Cowen and Robin Lehner. They both are entering their mid 20s and what a lot of people have failed to understand is that young players' values can change on a dime. Mark Stone about 6 months ago would have been a good piece to move - now he's untouchable. Outside of the Hall, McDavid, RNH - there isn't anyone in the Oiler's organization that many Sens fans (even management) would trade him for 1-for-1. His play/value has skyrocketed. Those two go hand in hand. Right now the play of Cowen and Lehner have fell off. It wouldn't surprise me the least if both stay with the the Sens and in about 8 months are untouchable.
