Strange post. Not sure how you want to turn 16 and 33 into 2 picks in the 20's. - HonkyTonkMan
Or why really, there is good talent in the 20's but there is better talent at 16. |

Why the (frank) are we talking about picks for picks at all. It should be picks and prospects for proven assets.
Even if this is better than 2003 how long did it take Parise, Getzlaf, Burns, Kesler, Richards and Perry to make impacts?
Parise his 4th year
Getzlaf 4th year
Burns 5th
Kesler 5 or 6?
Richards 5th
Perry 4th
Do we really have that kind of time? Only to find out we got a Bernier, Fehr, Nilsson or Eaves type?
I just don't know that people realize how long we are going to be waiting for these guys to make any sort of impact. |

The Oilers still need to look the future though. The Oilers could certainly use a Perry 4 years from now after they're forced to move out some salary because of all the high level talent they have.

If they don't start fixing the holes now they are going to end up with even more holes 4 years from now.

I agree with you there but the best organizations still find ways to add quality prospects whether via trade or signings. I'd be all for trading some picks to improve those holes now. I just don't want to see the Oilers go the Rangers way and never have any picks. |

I agree....but it's safe to say that in 3 years those ELC's are gonna become a necessity. |

I'm not suggesting that, but this team has spent far too long holding onto picks. We've need to slowly trade picks for legit NHLers the past 5 years, but instead we used them on longshot goalies or plugs.
With the exception being Perron, but then we reversed that move anyway. |

If we are in that dire of a situation I'm sure we could do what the other high end teams do and that's sign vets to cheap deals. |

I think they should try to package that 16th with Marincin/Schultz for a top pairing defender, try to trade a 2nd/3rd for a goalie and then try to sign one of the top defensemen via free agency. |

I wouldn't say that. A good portion of their team was built internally. I think what he's not afraid to do is pull that trigger and bring in proven vet talent at the cost of picks/prospects. As much as he moves guys they still have Lundqvist, Krieder, Hayes, Hagelin, Staal, Miller and others on the club. They'd still have Callahan but flipped him for St.Louis, so it's not at all that bad. |

Yeah, the MSL one I thought was an overpayment, but I also look at what Tampa is now going to pay Cally for a 3rd liner and the Rangers would have been (frank)ed if they gave him that.
Yandle is still a toss up for me. Have to see how he plays a full year and if he will re-sign with us. Also it will be interesting to see how Duclair plays for Tanner. Had a great camp with us last year but then sort of faded. Also heard he had some issues with attitude in the Q at the end of the year. |
