Ryan Wilson: Why Pittsburgh Failed In Game 3 + Rutherford On His Way Out?
Why Pittsburgh Failed In Game 3 + Rutherford On His Way Out? - Ryan_Wilson
Meh, I still liked most of his changes in the theory and team concept. Can't prevent season ending injuries, or constant lingering injuries.
And this excludes the Despres for Lovejoy deal before anyone points that out... he was dumped for the first offer pretty much, whatever. |

I'm not huge on Rutherford, but I can't blame him for the season-ending injuries either. |

I'm pissed JR didn't let the kids play. I figured we would get to see some guys up for once and have some youth in the lineup...
Whoever the new gm is I hope he trades Sutter spaling scuds for picks, don't care what rd just need more picks.. Let's most of the Ufa's walk, except maybe comeau and some wbs guys... And tells MJ to put kap and sund on the team |

Pensblog is claiming it is likely Guerin. No idea how he would conduct business. |

How much influence does JR have on bringing up our AHL level players? Thought that'd be more on HCMJ. |

Even with the poopty breakouts the Penguins dominated the third period. The problem was the first 40 minutes where they managed 11 shots. If they could have put together even 30 minutes of actual hockey they probably could have won the game.
Somehow this team has to learn how to start a hockey game. Which is a weird thing to say seeing how they are goddamn NHL players.
As for Rutherford I think that most of us thought he was a seat warmer for someone else anyways. He did the best could with the pile of bad contracts and lack of prospect depth that he inherited from Shero. The questionable move was the Lovejoy deal which I will never be able to figure out. |

Well, he has already been kissing some ass with the officials and such to get some good faith for the Penguins. Maybe he knew this was coming and started on his image early? |

Much like 2011, this year will be injuries as the reason for failure.
That being said, JR hasn't been great, but there is improvement. 1 he drafted a F in the 1st round. The Winnik deal blows though.
I love PH though, he was great last night. Love the choke hold body slam after the game! |

Depends on the organization. Some apply the HC's feedback more than others. I know Holland and Bowman are two examples that basically dictate complete control. Not sure how the Pens operate but I would guess Johnston doesn't have much control as a rookie coach.

Any idea on what his approach is with personnel decisions? I thought he was mostly a conduit between players and management right now.

Big surprise it was Rossi who JR said was a F'n jerk. I think anyone agrees with that and his work is crap. |

A douche calling a jerk a jerk... except, JR took the bait and exploded on him. Hes the GM, he needs to be more professional and ignore it/ |

A GM shouldn't lose his cool like Rutherford did, but I think Rossi's way off base with his criticism of Rutherford's cap management. No contender that isn't cash strapped should be carrying enough cap space to absorb the injuries the Pens took down the stretch without the aid of LTIR. I don't see any way he can say adding Ehrhoff on a one year deal was a bad move from the start, either. |

I guess I can't understand how he is more qualified compared to other guys in the organization like Botterill or Karmanos. I'm very skeptical of former players getting GM positions. I'd much rather they hire someone that has worked their way up like Dubas did than another former player with a less proven track record.

Without out the supposed Martin trade due to Maatta's injury, the Ehrhoff deal became a bit of a hinderance... but thats after the fact female doging by Rossi. |

Blame is on JR, gotta keep cool. But Rossi is a douche and his work is garbage. His article a few weeks ago about the moves JR made was a joke.
I know he was the beat writer, but then got fired and now writes for the tribe right?
When he was ever on MM he just didn't seem like he knew hockey at all. |

if he wants "leadership" from his GM, maybe Rossi should start pushing Tocchet for GM. I mean, he totes got the team pumped behind the bench, right? #intentcity |

I do agree JR has to keep it cool. Can't really blame him though, he was visibly pissed during the game. Injuries have derailed this team. We could easily be a Cup contender with a healthy team.

It's varies from player to player. Some are good at the GM role. Look at Yzerman. Some are terrible look at Hull's attempt or MacT in Edmonton. |

I think that might be the reason they are claiming Guerin... he was the glue that kept us better behaved during the Cup win. But I'd rather make him an assistant coach and be on the bench if that is part of the angle. |

IDK, are any GM's really that qualified? They mostly seem to be former players or somehow related to former players or league execs. Once they destroy 1 team they just move on to another. When looking at the moves Shero made, some good but a lot of bad, you just wonder WTF were you thinking? And he is regarded as a good GM and will get another job. |
