i wonder if Olli Jokinen could be a decent low-cost option to upgrade over Sutter.
not a lot of points, but it's not like Sutter has a ton either.
Jokinen dominates Sutter as far as possession numbers. |

Looks like Kane is out a month, despite going 24 pt less games, 87 wins the pt race again? - sammy87
All the top players have around if not more than 24 pt less games. Kane included. |

Lupul with 1.5M retained, Frattin and Panik for Dumoulin, Sutter, Scuderi, 2015 2nd and conditional 2016 3rd
Cheap bottom six options in Frattin and Panik and great offensive threat in Lupul at 4M for three more years. Leafs get a third line C who can eventually be traded for picks or kept as part of the rebuild. Dumoulin has top 4 potential, Scuderi, like Sutter, can be traded or kept to teach the young d and gives Pens cap space to pick up defensemen in offseason. Conditional 2016 3rd is given if Penguins make 2nd round of 2015 playoffs. - Unholy_Forward

We could have had Hartman in the draft if the former GM didn't make that foolish deal getting a non-needed player in Iginla.
You keep doing this sell off assets for rentals, we will run out of assets at some point. You get nothing back for when the rentals bolt. - Oneonta Penguin
I see your point but its not that simple. What are the chances he would have drafted Hartman? Our drafting hasn't been great, especially at forward. We could of not had Iginla AND a bust prospect. I'm just saying the "what-if we rewrote history" statements are pointless. |

this lupul rumor is hopefully just that. makes absolutely 0 sense. guy would be useful if healthy, but absolutely never is anymore. and at 3 more years at a very hefty amount?
not to mention they'd need to send salary out for him, and at least something of interest for the leafs.
this is a very, very easy pass. |

Deal. There's almost no better way to earn high picks, by the way, than by having Sutter and Scuds playing key roles on a team. You'll love them.
I do however feel that every time Lupul takes to the ice, the same abrupt feeling of trepidation and dread about what is about to take place as in the Sopranos finale will be present. |

I understand your argument. I'm not saying all UFA's. But certainly quality D men that are at a premium and teams are selling the farm for. CHI is in win now mode as much as any team and were able to ship Leddy out for picks that will create depth in 2-3 years. Sooner if the scouting is adequate (Hartman).
Acquiring assets would be a change of pace that may prove more valuable than acquiring a Hossa,Iggy,Morrow,Jagr, etc. IMO. - stowerkraut
Teams are selling the farm for quality d-men, because those are the players you need to win. 22+ minute a night defensemen are sought after, because they are important. You don't trade them for a late first rounder and a guy who might be a good player in a few years. You try to win with those players.
Leddy was traded for a good defensive prospect, and a couple crapshoot goalie prospects. He was traded because Chicago had to move him to get under the opening day cap, not because they wanted to add prospects. Same with when they moved Buff and Ladd. |

Heres a question... what players that we have are other teams and boards clamoring legit thoughts and interests in obtaining? Because I am not looking everywhere to find out lol |

The three young D prospects. Martin. Not Hoff. Not Scarecrow. |

To Pitt: Tlusty ($2.95)and Sekera ($1.75)
To Car: Sutter ($3.3 with 1 yr left) + ??? (maybe Ehrhoff $4 - Carolina has about $6M in cap space)

Ehrhoff has a full NMC. I'd give it a 0.1% chance he removes it to go to Carolina.

Sekera will certainly be moved. I think they want futures. Hoff doesn't really get that done for them.
I don't think they were in a rush to trade Sutter when they acquired Staal~ he had promise. Now I'm sure they don't want him back. That whole period of time just makes me angry. Pit passed on Forsberg. That's all that draft will ever be about to me. |

haha scarecrow.
I do think that should he be made available, teams would want him.
but due to healthy concerns and the like, i dont think the assets would be worth it. they had their chance to trade him.
for better or worse (and there are plenty of both) he is part of the immovable core. |

Ehrhoff is not waiving NMC to go to Carolina, so that option is out. Any trade to Carolina/Toronto/Other bad teams, must include draft picks. That is what those teams want. It will also probably have to include one of the defensive prospects.
So it will probably be more like Tlusty and Sekera
for
Sutter, Harrington, 2016 1st, plus we need to include something else from the roster to make the cap work and that won't be Adams or Sill.
Giving up a 1st or 2nd and Harrington/Dumoulin isn't worth Tlusty and Sekera unless we resigned both and for reasonable deals, but there would obviously be no guarantees of that. |

I can't see anyone giving Carolina that package. Way too much for 2 impending UFA's especially 2 as underwhelming as them. |
