I think that was a proposed trade, not an actual. I haven't seen that posted anywhere. - thickman1178

Drooling?
How upset are you going to be when you realize he's a slightly better Taylor Pyatt?
I mean he's an upgrade on what is there now but he's not a game changer. - canadianpenfan
He's better than Pyatt. He's actually really similar to Spaling. Good defensively. Big but not overly physical. Typically a negative possession player for his career.
Biggest difference is that Winnik has played a top 6 role for most of the year and has 25 points, while Spaling played a top 6 role for a little while and has 22.
We'll see. I think he's here for a 4th line only role. Winnik also is a deluxe penalty killer, so they could easily do without Adams given this trade, with Winnik, Lapierre and Downie holding down what would now be a pretty well rounded 4th line.

Well that 4th line isn't happening. Rutherford stated a few times today winnik will fit in our top 9 nicely |

I didn't take Rutherford's top six and top 9 comments as gospel, he was selling his new acquisition's merits.

Aw man... You just killed my buzz bringing up that name. He's got to be better than that. Just has to be....
+15. More points than Sutturd. HAS to be. - madmike71
I said BETTER than Pyatt.
But for real, that's who he reminds me of. He's like a more tenacious and faster, but not much, Pyatt. Same minimal offensive skillset and the same knack for not taking advantage of their size. My point is only that anyone expecting him to be awesome is going to be upset.
I would love him to prove me wrong and be a force. |

the weird thing about this front office is that they'll pay for Winnik, who is kinda the #fancystats dream boy, yet Sutter remains the 3C.
ya gotta think he'll be moved if possible. |

This team still has sutter and adams on it..and no jagr or another top 6 guy.... plus barely any picks in a great draft class... just don't know how they can win and continue to win... |

Honestly, I haven't seen Winnik play very much. I'm certainly not expecting him to be a force, but I am expecting him to be a contributor (not necessarily points).
When I read Pyatt's name in the same sentence as Winnik's, my heart sunk.
Pyatt is literally burned on my brain as one of the worst players to play for this team in the Crosby era. |

Have you looked at Winnik's fancy stats?!? They're not much better than Sutter's. |

it's SO hard to tell what Jagr's trade value might be. Gotta think it's in the Tlusty neighborhood, right?
I know i'd feel dang good about a middle 6 of
kunitz malkin jagr
Comeau Winnik Bennett
The salary cancellation would work between sutter/jagr.
Wonder if Sutter+Jarry could bring Jagr, and either a pick or Zidlicky.
I don't wanna trade the yound, NHL ready D men because they'll need cheap defense for when they bring in Jordan Staal in the offseason |

i dunno. i think they indicate that Sutter is more of a 4th liner, and that Winnik is a legit 3rd liner with some underlying 2nd line ability. |

Winnik's "advanced" stats don't support that assessment.
What underlying 2nd line ability does he possess exactly? |

we might be looking at different things.
i was just doing a quick look at his HERO chart, which... since i haven't been able to apply much of an eye test to winnik... shows corsi ratings into the second line level.
obviously not the end-all-be-all way to assess a player, but i think corsi should at the very least be considered "underlying".
traditional stats show 3rd line, with possession numbers into the 2nd line level
