If Fleury keeps playing the way he's been playing since the All Star break, this team doesn't need much to be dangerous in the playoffs. I know this is a big IF, but he has been at another level over the last month. |

I don't think there's a team in the league that would want Scuderi. Maybe Philly for Amac?
The asking price for Sekera is a 1st and good prospect alone. So Sekera for a 1st and Harrinngton maybe? But that's 2 for 1 which further hurts your depth 2 years down the line. - rangerdanger94
If thats the asking price for Sekera, I cant imagine what JR could get for Martin. Wow. |

Probably a similar package. Martin's cap hit is harder for contenders to work in than Sekera's though. |

Only thing is Sekera is younger than Martin, but Martin is better. |

Martin would also require roster assets coming back from a contender as opposed to picks/prospects. |

Sekera has more offensive upside than Martin as well |

If there IS a basis to this rumour, than so be it, but to me it seems like a person who's gone to the Dodge dealership and is staring at a Viper that he COULD afford if he sold part of his house instead of the Caravan that he really needs and could easily purchase. |

This, but there is a need to upgrade the 3C spot.

True, for this year only. If a contender wants to resign, then they will have to move pieces in the offseason to make it work. Then they have to bank on Sekera signing there as well. Same thing with Martin though. |

Interesting weekend, I hope it doesn't change any plans that Good Ole JR had in mind trade wise. STL was a very nice win and FLA looked uninterested yesterday, 2 wins is nice but we still need addition by subtraction and Sutter needs to find a new home; or return to an old home. While I do like Staalsy I still think Jagr would be a better fit for this club.

How do you feel Staal at 6 vs Statsny at 7?
Does Statsny bring that much more to the table? |

I think you have to retain 1 of Ehrhoff or Martin (even with a raise, you're probably saving $3M from the pair). Also, you won't know what you have with Kapanen until training camp, some AHL time may do him some good.
Not saying it can't happen, but you should always plan for the worst case, which is not "hoping" and/or "luck."
If Jordan Staal cost 0 assets and have a $3M cap hit, that would be great. He will, and he doesn't, which makes his risky. - jmatchett383
No doubt for sure. I'm on the side that believes the Pens should be all in for the next few seasons with Crosby and Malkin still in their prime. Adding Staal and a couple entry level contract guys next season, the Pens are stacked...barring serious illness or injury. Same goes for this season.
Also don't believe either Martin and Ehrhoff need to be resigned. Shero loaded the D and we're pretty well set there with Maata returning.
Wishful thinking, maybe. But I think it's manageable. |

I think it's more of a debate of what it does to our depth. Well for me anyways. |

I didn't mean to bring Statsny to the Pens, just in general. Stasny seems to be overhyped but not really a super star, still a decent player and $7mil seems a bit high. Curious how you compare his value to Staal. |

Stastny has better offensive upside.
Staal is better defensively.
Staal can face top level opponents night in and night out and dominate the possession game to shut them down.
Stastny can hold his own as well, but isn't near as good at this. He'll score more, though. |

I'm not sure if Jagr gets moved because Lou has lost his marbles. A trade asset like Ryder has been a scratch and Tootoo is getting 18+minutes a night + PP time.

Sounds like a vote for Staal then... Defense wins playoffs more often than offense |
