He's saying your biggest issue is depth and instead of getting 3 quality bottom 6 players each making 2M a year to improve that depth, you want to get 1 player making 6M a year. - rangerdanger94
That is so (frank)ing simplistic though. That's like saying Spaling and Sutter are quality depth and Comeau and Downie are not. |

How the Flyers can lose to Columbus, then lose a shootout to the Sabres, and then post back-to-back wins in less than 24 hours against Nashville and Washington with their 3rd string goalie starting both...no clue.
But... my wife and I DID win a trip to Pittsburgh and a pair of tix to the Flyers @ Penguins game on 4/1/15. She's wearing her Gonchar jersey, I'm wavering on my Lemieux jersey. |

Google is scary good at knowing everything about you, what you like and what you're looking for. Just watch what you search for or the ads you are shown will start to reflect it.
Or just use adblock like anyone who's good using these series of tubes. |

Also Comeau isn't a bottom 6 player on this team so he shouldn't be included in that discussion. |

I've been here but haven't seen too many realistic trade proposals. Most of them consist of our garbage for the other team's stars. - joescullz
I can't see Carolina taking back Sutter. At his best, he's put up 40 points while not playing in a shutdown role or hitting anything hard enough where he's not on his butt. If Francis is smart about it (and the rumors have any legs) he'll be looking at prospects and picks. Dumoulin, Sundqvist, and the 2016 first seems like a lot but might be more realistic. Then the cap space thing needs to be figured out. Moving Martin would help if it's for picks but with Ehrhoff sidelined indefinitely....
And then what do you do with Sutter? 3.3 for the next two years, I don't see anyone taking that on, unless his last name truly sways someone like MacT. |

Google knows you're a pens fan. Seriously. The algorithms they use to display relevant information to you are a million times better than even a few years ago. Isn't it pretty subtle that its gotten to the point were almost half the time you search for something you get all the info you need without having to go into any of the links like you had to years ago. |

I understand. You're saying you can't bag on guys like Spaling who are producing at their pay grade and praise a guy like Staal who you think is not performing at a 6 mil cap hit? I don't disagree! - dbell646
Thank you!
I love Staal...I keep saying it.
It would be great if he came back.
I just don't see how the logic of the arguments against players like Sutter and Spaling works when it comes to Staal.
To me, he is even more over paid than those guys (what you get back...in all ways...versus what you spend).
And then...another big salary means even less to spend among the peons...further exacerbating the problem of depth...right?
I just don't see how making the model more top heavy...in terms of so few players taking up so much salary...helps the seemingly never ending problem of finding the right 'cheap pieces' to make a championship caliber team....any better?
Would Staal really make up for what we lack?
And if he didn't (a bigger gamble because of the money spent on one player) aren't we in an even worse spot? |

Easily, I'll start searching for a hockey player on google and it will come up within the first name most times. I'm talking guys I have never searched either from around the league/prospects. It puts hockey players at the top of the list over every other famous person. |

Right, but saying that we couldn't properly fill out the depth of the roster is wrong. It's harder. We'd have to make smart roster choices. (Same example again: Staal and Harrington @ $6.5M >>> Sutter and Scuderi @ $6.5M) |

Harrington will be due for a raise in a year. As will the rest of your young defense. Hence leading to further depth issues due to 54% of your cap being tied into 5 players. |

But its like you guys are forgetting Sutter is awful and he makes those guys even worse.
Put it this way. On a scale of 1-10 for contract value lets say Staal is a 7.5. Sutter would be a -3. |

In general, you're correct. However, at the time, J Staal was leaving and the return the Penguins got for him was pretty good, considering he had all of the leverage. 4 years after the fact, it's still pretty good for Pouliot alone. But yes, your general point is correct. |

Jordan Staal MAY be traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins, but it feels like a long shot.
There are a lot of pieces that would need to be moved to achieve it, and for the Hurricanes to receive fair value in the form of pieces they actually want.
Jordan Staal is an excellent player and to this point still hasn't really received a fair shake in Raleigh. Up until playing on a line with his brother, he wasn't really given a whole lot to work with.
He's very very good at what he does.
Carolina won't want to part with him for nothing. They've committed to getting bigger as a team, and trading away one of the biggest and most talented guys on the tea doesn't really achieve that. |
