GMJR is looking for a veteran D to help add depth.Moving Martin or Erhoff would be a lateral move at best. And I'm not sold on the idea that the D GMJR acquires has to be a rental. It sounds like the price and/or length of deals martin and erhoff want are to much - willi
If Rutherford lands Petry, it will be with the intent to retain him long term instead of Martin or Ehrhoff. Ehrhoff has a full NMC and just had a kid. Pens would have to beg him to be traded even if they were already eliminated from the postseason so suggesting him in any trade is completely foolish until he requests one.

I didn't want to include Scuderi because you guys have changed your tune on him this year.
Hey, just trying to think outside of the box. What if I change DP to...let's say, Dumolin or Harrington, and change Adams to Scuderi (or both) - jmatchett383
Late to the party here, not sure if others agreed to that, but I would do that. Done deal.
And FWIW, I like when people try to throw out something semi-rational involving different names than the same ones weve been talking about over and over. So kudos for that haha.

im not even going to debate the fact that the value youre offering up is huge. i really its silly, emotional, and sentimental, but as a fan i just have a very hard time trading malkin. - stayinthefnnet
I understand. Heck, I had a hard time taking the Mike Richards trade. I was literally throwing a temper tantrum in my office when that happened. |

That is a damn good point. I'd think that Anaheim and Montreal would be the best choices. - jmatchett383

Well, what about moving him out West to Phoenix for (in the offseason) Hanzal, Boedker, OEL, and Max Domi? Assuming Phoenix would do it. - jmatchett383
Obviously a kings ransom comes back. But does it "fix" the problem?
I am a huge Crosby fan but every year it seems he dictates more and more... both on and off ice decisions. His oozing self-entitlement kills me too. How do you fix that?.... No clue. |

They're looking at Sekera as a potential partner for Erhoff, not as a goddamn replacement.
Also, Canes don't want another mediocre center back in return. Looking for picks and prospects only. - BINGO!
i think sekera is a fine player. but i just really dont think the pens can be in on him. they dont have the assets. (at least i hope they dont part with the ones they do have considering what it would take).
he would just be another good veteran Dman that they cant sign in the offseason. |

Another interesting Malkin point regarding his lack of production on the PP, beyond no power play goals since December 6th...Malkin has 2 power play goals in his last 34 playoff games...one against CBJ last year, and then you have to go the whole way back to the Flyers series in 2012.

Apparently they want Winnik to come play with Sutter and Spaling. I don't know how that could be the plan but that's what the speculation is. |

I keep Malkin, trade Sid. I think Pittsburgh could get unheard of return for Sid for the publicity alone and could still have the better of the two players when the dust settles. - Johnny Wrath
Who do you think draws more national TV attention? The NHL made face of the league, MVP, friendly, good with the press, fans, ladies etc....Or a goofy looking Russian that cant speak English well? Pens will always have more national attention because of 87, not 71. That lines Lemieux's and Burlkes pockets. |

Here are some third line centers worth going after.
Cody Eakins, Dallas. 6' 190lbs
Ryan Garbutt, Dallas. 6' 190lbs
James Sheppard, San Jose. 6' 205lbs
Eakins is young, Garbutt is a more physical guy.
Sheppard is a bigger guy who has potential. All are in our price range.
All are centers. - powerhouse
Didn't Shero go after Garbutt at one point in time? |

Well, let's all take a step back as well.
The Penguins are what, 2 points out of being first place in their division, with a host of bad luck due to injuries? They're still one hell of a good team. They could very easily get knocked out early, and they could also conceivably get to the SCF or win the whole damn thing.
Just trying to open up some creative thinking if the trend continues. |

i love malkin. but i will be the first to tell you that he is not as good of a player as he should be. the physical talent he has been given is unmatched in the league. - stayinthefnnet
I'd give up a cup to continue to watch Crosby Malkin etc play for several more years as opposed to watching decent players muck it up for a cup. A year or. Two after the cup win nobody really cares. But being able to tell your kids you were lucky enough to watch 2 of the best their whole careers? Much better

The Penguins still managed to get a lot of national attention when Sid was injured for all that time.
I would also say that Malkin's NHL resumee is greater than Sid's. I would take a Conn Smythe over a Rocket Richard trophy 1:1. |

I guess it's different because you have 2009. As a long-suffering Flyers fan (or, imagine a Toronto fan), I will gladly trade 15 years of 0 wins and a full roster overhaul of all ECHL-level players for 1 Stanley Cup. |
