Anybody who does that stupid first pump after EVERY goal needs to be criticized. ..I always wanted someone to give him what dale hunter gave to pierre turgeon

jesus dude. thats harsh for a guy who basically embodied class throughout his entire career.

besides, i would be pretty ecstatic too after scoring a goal. look at him. he literally looks like a frail little child, but he managed to carve out a hell of an NHL career.

Last time I was at a game, we stayed for ~5 innings until my daughter decided she'd had enough.

How someone who is 2 feet tall and weighs 20 pounds completely controls the lives of 2 full-grown adults is still puzzling to me a year and a half later.

haha a mystery of life. but i cant say i wouldnt do the same thing.

thats the beauty of baseball. maybe because there are so many games, but until its the playoffs, there is just such a lazy, floating down the river feel to it.

definitely not worth incurring the wrath of a small child to catch the bullpen struggle to get someone out.

Yeah, it's not intense like hockey. You go down for a few innings, get a hot dog, leave after the 7th.

How could I have forgotten that, among all of the waiver pickups over the last three or four years, that one of them could've turned out to be 1997 Robert Lang.

Do you think the Penguins would interrupt Sid's line if Malkin was down a wing or two?

Nah... gibbons wuld have been picked up for the left, and ryan malone picked up for the right

So why didn't the excess cap space work for the last 4 years (until this year when you didn't have much until Dupuis went onto LTIR)?
- jmatchett383

The Pens really only had excess cap space the year they brought in Iginla, Morrow, and Murray. And that was the year they made it to the ECF.

Last year when the cap was not raised from 2011-2012 and was lower than the previous year's pro-rated 70.2 the Pens were hurting cap wise.

So 2013/14 - Pens were cap strung terribly, but so were a lot of teams, so not really a huge excuse. They just didn't have the flexibility they had this year or will have going forward.
2012/13 - Brought in lots of players to utilize cap space, went to ECF, lost to Boston
2011/12 - Mess against the Flyers
2010/11 - No Crosby, No Malkin
2009/10 - This was essentially the same team that won the cup, just failed miserably against Halak.

By this time, Disco had fully shaped the team. By shaped, I mean spoiled, taken to the spa, given a mud mask, and had the mani/pedi the team so richly deserved.

Halak was "other worldly" in that series. Sometimes that happens. I also thought the Pens looked a little gassed.

I thought the "Iggy" year was our year, but Disco just mangled his personnel decisions. On top of that he waited 2 games to make strategy changes that should have been done in the 2nd period of the first game. I'm just amazed that that ownership didn't show Dan the door after that series.

Screen by a forward would have helped. Alas.

Dan should have indeed been shown the door. Alas.

Should I start a 'roads not taken taken' blog?

DK had a little "blurb" on his site about Dan. He said Mario implored him to make a couple of changes to his system, but Dan essentially refused. Of course we all know now that Mario was behind Jacques Martin coming here.

If the guy asking for changes is Ron Burkle, maybe I understand blowing him off a bit. If it's Mario Lemieux (a guy that might know a thing or two), I think he should give it consideration.

I don't know why the Penguins needed to have a public relations disaster with how they fired Dan when they have Jacques Martin. I don't know why they needed to confirm that they didn't get their guy in Willie Dejardins. Then why they needed to hire a guy who appears to know his way around the bargain rack at Kohl's in Mike Johnston. He has a generic haircut to match his shoes, game plan, and generic name.

I'm glad Ek reported that Pitt is looking for a D-man so it won't happen, because if they trade for a D-man at deadline in going to lose my mind and possibly slit my wrists!😳

I agree about the haircut, shoes and name but his game plan isn't generic. His puck possesion style fits the team and looks really good when the team plays it.

Yeah, that was an ugly month or two. I think David Morehouse is out of his depth as CEO. He's not a hockey guy and I think he was largely responsible for that terrible transition.

He was in politics, though. He should know how things appear better than that.

A politician that mangles something? I don't think that sounds all that strange actually.

In fairness, old man Ruth apparently wanted some egg on his face too by announcing he had found his coach.

Plenty of that to go around. I don't know why they let him twist in the wind like that. Obviously neither Disco nor Shero have a job in hockey right now; it's not as though shaming was necessary. It's also the only time I have ever seen Bob McKenzie report something that wasn't 100% fact.

Any bets on if OV gets called for diving 2nite after Getzlaf called him out? I watched that game and there were a couple plays he went down easy which kinda surprised me

I doubt tonight against the Pens. He's usually pretty stout against us.

So willi, I skimmed to get to this point and you took some abuse today! Glad to see you're still around. Most new guys exit backstage.

I'm convinced he was going to fired along with Ray. At the last minute either Burkle, Mario or Morehouse came up with some reason to string him along. The only reason I can think of is keeping him away from the Caps (division rival). I don't think they had hired Trotz at that point. I certainly don't buy them saying it was possible Dan might keep his job.

It was ugly on many levels.
