you either didn't watch the game or you nothing about the game. Pitts top 2 lines played very good ( crosby and malkin included). I would say they cancelled out Chicagos top 2 lines. And when that happens you need your bottom 6 to make the difference especially wgen you're on the road.

Thank you for bringing this up. The five people who defend the usual suspects and their crap play on this board always seem to be willfully ignorant of how important it can be to roll four lines against other elite teams; at home on the road and especially in the playoffs.

No we don't demand 20 goal scorers out of our fourth line, no we're not saying having grit and the ability to hit and drop the gloves are unimportant. We just want guys who can actually win face offs and generate some shots on net, not ones who are only considered defensive specialists because they're always hitting and blocking shots in their own end.

I really want that term, but the original contract offer was reportedly 7x7? No reason to bring him into our mix now.

Did i hear the announcer say Versteeg was on their 4th line?

- sammy87

He was up on the second line with Sharp in the dog house on the fourth in the first period. That changed at the start of the second after it was obvious we were controlling the game despite the score.

Watched a recording of the game.

Pens played very well throughout and could have easily won in regulation.

Pierre McGuire has a fetish about Letang.

The three shots taken by Chicago in the SO were incredible.

Sutter blows chunks.

Malkin was so close to scoring several times, them's the bounces.

Idk I just don't think there is any motivation for EDM to do this deal especially this far into the season. Sutter would have been more appealing when they were in a frantic hunt to turn their season around. Sure Petry is leaving one way or the other but I just imagine they are more interested in whatever picks or prospects they can nab since it'll be yet another high draft pick for them.

The pressure is pretty high up there. They want a playoff team ASAP. I think they'd like to get NHL ready players......the question is, what is Sutter's value these days? I honestly don't know.

Bortz to me has very little value. 6th or 7th Dmen can easily be had in the off season with no assets leaving.

I wish we'd get an "NHL insider" to comment on Sutter's value.

I'd like to believe there is some franchise out there that overvalues him. But I suppose it isn't inconceivable to believe that the entire league views him as negatively as most Pens fans do either.

Leafs are numero uno when it comes to teams who would probably overvalue him. Thats why I kept suggesting Sutter for Santorelli and Winnik. Santorelli may not bring much more in the size and grit department but I think he would help our third line be more of a threat especially if Bennet Downie or Spalling are on the wings.

That would be a gross overpayment for Sutter. Even for Nonis. Maybe possible for Winnik if Shanahan isn't already overseeing personnel decisions. Personally, if I were Rutherford I'd be trying desperately to move Sutter for Bergenheim and move Spaling to center.

he's my idea
Sutter+ harrington for Sekera ( 50% retained) +mclemment( 50% retained)the actual $ retained would be about $400k since sekera's pay is less than his cap
Sekera would give pitt a top 4 D who they may have a chance to resign while mclemment is a good on the PK and a good face off man on the 4th line (bye bye Adams)
Then we ship Bortuzzo to Boston for Kelly. Boston needs cap space and we need a 3rd line center

Let the criticizing begin

Eh, Winnik is definitely not a great replacement for Sutter but a good depth guy who's good defensively and on the pk to move Adams out of the lineup.

You lost me after Sekera. He is absolutely someone the Pens should target if they cannot resign one of Martin or Hoff, or if they can somehow move Scuderi. (I have a feeling both will move on, but it's just a guess).

It was lost in the chatter during the game today, but I think Carl Soderberg would be a good upgrade over Sutter if he makes it to ufa. Obviously Boston has no reason to move him in season, especially since he wouldn't save them much cap space.

I agree with you on Soderberg but only if it's for $3.75 mil max. Perfect 3rd line center

I really don't get it??? 1. Whatever Craig Adams is ... he s a damn good penalty killer. 2. If the Pens don't win the cup it won't be a result of anything he does... Its ridiculous the guy actually played a good game today..

He doesn't do anything... that's the problem. .. He doesn't help offensively, a can't pass or shoot, he has multiple turnovers today in the D zone. why have a guy on the 4th line who the coach barely puts in.. get a guy like bergenheim or winnik or whoever that can put up points and is not just a plug...

Home ice advantage... They were getting the top 2 against our 4th very often.
- Guile

Yeah and they scored 1 goal in the game. Not bad by the fourth line. I know you all think 4th liners are suppose to all have 15 goals a year but most of you also think metrics mean something.

Can I again bring to your attention the lack of scoring from our D?

Who scored for the Hawks?

Tough games require scoring from all parts of the ice & team - you cannot single out the 4th line continuously while our D go for zeros very often, or don't score as much as other good teams.
