I think part of the frustration is that the pieces to add for the bottom six are reasonably obtainable. And honestly, if Maatta and Dupuis weren't done for the year, this team would likely be a top team in the league.

This x100. Even if we don't add anyone else at least we got on of the two out of the lineup

Oh dear God... I accidentally put on channel 11 instead of 12 when switching rooms. Was some religious broadcast or cult thing... I don't know, I cringed and flipped up a channel fast.

I love how so many forget that little piece of having Perron and somehow we could have had both 39 and 9 on the roster.

Rutherford said he wanted to add a top 6 before the season started with Dupuis on the roster. The money hangup is not nearly as big of a detriment as people are making it out to be. Other moves would have been made to free up the space if that is the player Rutherford wanted to add.

On another note, Ehrhoff has a full NMC. And he just had a kid. There is a 0% chance of him being traded.

And how does that affect his cap hit for the rest of the contract?

I can never remember how that works... TO GOOGLE!

edit: Nevermind.. i still don't understand since the only explainations pertained to backloaded deals or traded players on long deals. No simple on normal deals with the team they signed with.

if it doesn't come off if retires he could just not retire and it would stay off as LTIR

Should have a new drinking game...

The amount of times Sutter get's pushed off/loses the puck in the offensive zone. Pretty good chance you're hammered by the end of the first.

I think this is what Philly does with Pronger. But his contract was the old CBA and Dupuis was signed after the lockout. Not sure if that matters.

That just sounds kinda odd to be able to handle it that way... I think for a contract structured like his, it would have to come off then.

Sutter has forfeited offensive zone puck control 3 times this 1st period. Twice losing control of the puck down low and once with his pass to the point for Pouliot.

Correct. Dupuis deal would come off the books. He was under 35 when he signed it.

you beat me to it..

The only way to end a player's contract early is to buy it out, or have the player retire, and then only if the contract took effect prior to a player turning 35 (see the next paragraph).

The CBA also contains a 35-and-over rule, sometimes referred to as the Mogilny rule.[8] This rule states that if a player signs a multi-year deal when the player is 35 or older, starting in the second year of the contract, that amount will count towards the team's salary cap regardless of whether the player is on the active roster or not (unless the player is on long-term injured reserve); this provision remains in effect for the 2013 CBA. This is designed to keep teams from signing older players to lucrative front-loaded contracts, thus saving cap room, in which there is no expectation the player will actually play in the latter years.

Ok, Maybe not hammered but well on your way.

Actually was a pretty good 1st for the Pens. Even for the 3rd line. I thought the 4th was trash in their limited minutes.

You never know what to expect from this team....especially afternoon games.

No you're right. Sutter is an absolute blackhole. He doesn't make any egregious errors so people think he is responsible, but the cumulative effect of him losing puck possession is more disastrous than the occasional turnover other players have. He almost NEVER makes any plays with the puck.

Toews' line is matching up with Crosby's, but Malkin's line is steamrolling Richards' line right now. Hopefully they keep it up. Defense was very strong in that period.

Thank you for the direct quote to the rule.

Chicago changed lines during the play down low to match their top 2 lines against our 4th a couple times. We are lucky they didn't get a goal with those matchups.

That Bennett kid is horrible. We should definitely trade him right now.
