Yah, they were chasing them around and being physical, but they never "contained" anything and they never once got a shot off, nor a shot attempt. I need to see the 4th line generate chances, I don't expect them to score, but they need to be able to control the puck better and generate a scoring chance.
I'm not comfortable in a playoff overtime sending out a line that is just going to survive.

I think Adams had one shot, but I believe the line in total gave up 8. They weren't good. Downie was the best player and Adams was garbage. He had a couple of brutal giveaways. Someone needs to explain to me how Lappy is better than Goc. If he was brought in to be a physical/instigator type, somebody should let him know.

They survived.....barely. They will get crushed in a 7 game series if things don't change.

I remember specifically that Downie did get 2 shots on that shift, and Lappy was in front causing havoc, im not sure what time it was but I know it was in the 3rd because I was shocked that we were getting that kind of pressure that late in the game with our 4th line. I believe CHI actually iced the puck at the end of the shift.
Either way Adams sucks and needs to take a seat.

Adams had a shot on goal? The one from the red line that went on net counted?

Looking at the box.... He's credited with one shot. I don't remember it honestly.

That sounds like the exact definition of "Shot on Goal"

Downie wasn't credited with anything and I don't remember that line getting a single shot on goal. But yah, i'm just not happy with their play.

Lapierre is more affective in the playoffs than the regular season. In a 7 game series he can drive a team nuts. His best game with pitt was against Edmonton when he was out against RNH and shut that line down

Yes, but box scorers will not count those sometimes because it wasn't intended or it was a lucky dump in, which Craigs was. It wasn't like he tried to score.

Downs shot could have been blocked in front I cant remember, but I know for sure he had one hit the outside of the net from the goal line, because I actually thought it went in. But what stood out was Lappy causing hell in front which I liked to see. Downie is a fantastic 4th liner for us, Lappy ehh; im still hoping he finds his game, Adams though he is hopeless, I just don't get the love affair that our coaching staff still has with the guy.

I think Downie would be a better 3rd liner, but if Bennett keeps playing like he did yesterday he has to stay in the lineup. It's nice to have a couple of guys that can jump up in case of injuries. At least Sid won't have a Gibbons on his wing if one of his wings goes down.

I think the 4th would improve dramatically if we could upgrade Adams.

I think the 4th line would improve if we shot Adams behind the dumpster at Consol and replaced him with the cardboard Orpik.

I like the physicallity, but it can't come at the expense of trying to play the game. Downie brings a great blend of offense and pain. Lappy could be better but Adams is seriously dragging them down.

I don't get it man, I just cant see the reason the team keeps running Adams out there.

There is none. I hate to say this, but I wonder if Olli Jokinen could be had for like a 7th round pick or something. Would be an upgrade to the fourth line on the cheap.

*Sutter for Winnik and Jokinen and Toronto's 3rd round selection?

Actually I have brought it up numerous times. It's basically been Letang with nothing from the others cept once in a blue moon. It actually feels like we're getting less from the blue line point wise this year if you leave tanger out of the equation

Good point. We miss the "Nis-Cannon".

I definitely expected Ehrhoff to contribute more offensive production. Despres, for as good as he has been, it seems his offensive upside is limited. He can't get a shot through traffic. Bortuzzo likes to shoot alot but he doesnt create much. That leaves Pouliot

If Nonis values Sutter that much, then Rutherford should have been involved in the Franson and Santorelli deal. Also pretty sure there still needs to be more salary going back.

That is the problem Nonis doesn't know jack about what he is doing or where he wants this team to go. Franson and Santorelli were worth more, if you ask me.

That's true. Though he is also pretty much a lame duck and I'm not sure how much control he even has over the team at this point. I didn't think the trade with Nashville was terribly lop-sided, but I thought they should get more packaging those two together.

The biggest variable many others have expressed on here is that no one knows what Sutter's value is. I view him as a severely overpaid 4C. There might be some front offices that view him as an affordable 2C option. I know Rutherford must have a more positive opinion of Sutter than I do because I would have preferred to have Goc, Arcobello, Spaling, or Klinkhammer in his spot than keep Sutter as the 3C.

Here is what I am counting on. Nonis trades Bozak and opens up a second line center spot and somehow believes that Sutter can be that guy with JVR for the long haul.

I just don't understand the fear of young defensemen in this league.

The Pens use all these high draft picks for good defensemen, spend years developing them, and then seemingly do everything they can to avoid playing them.

If a team wants to tank to improve their chances of rebuilding, I can think of no better decision to make than playing Blackhole Sutter more minutes than he deserves as a #2 center.

What? Did you watch yesterday? You don't have to trade for a Dman, but you can't trade one away.
