no contender has the cap space to take on 5.75 for 5 years especially for a depth player |

Sarcasm?
You wouldn't have to give up that much, plus your owner's cheap . There aren't many offers I'd put Zibby into, especially not Richards. |

Regardless of whether or not the Predators are actually in on Richards, they definitely would make good trade partners. With Roy and Jokinen signed for very cheap deals for just over $1 million dollars, either would help them gain some cap space. |

Richards for Zibanejad or something... - AlfieFever
god i hope you're joking.
richards contract is terrible. he's AT BEST a decent 2nd line center, and that's only on some teams. If LA is trading him, they're either giving him away for peanuts, or else they're taking a somewhat less bad contract back.
for example, if i was ottawa........
greening, prince, dal 2nd
that actually wouldn't be bad, prince and toffoli were linemates in the OHL. |

His contract is 5.75 for five more years. That contract isn't horrible and if he was a UFA he would do better.
I disagree on both counts.
It's a horrible contract and if he were bought out today, there's no way he'd get over 3, much less 5.75. |

i agree. i think 3 is a little low, but he wouldn't get close to 5.75, let alone more..............although, there's always the "florida factor", which means he'd probably get 8 |

Richards has been in decline since before he left Philly. Years of blood and guts physical efforts and such seemed to have caught up to him. He's not nearly the physical player he once was and his defensive battle and offfensive production has also diminished. He does bring some intangibles, but
even those aren't quite what they might be due to the drop-off in his play. At this point, imo, MR is a 3rd liner, maybe second on some of the teams with less depth than others. On a value basis I think he's currently playing up to about $3-$4 million in salary, which makes him overpaid by about 2+ million/yr. He turns 30 in a 3 months. I don't see him getting his youthful vigor and performance back as he turns that corner.
