Hope we get to see Harrington, but I doubt it.
Buffalo needs to move out most of those veteran contracts and play the kids... might as well see what you have in Grigo, Armia, Zadorov et... could get solid returns for guys like Myers and Hodson or Ennis. |

I'd keep those guys in Rochester away from that toxic environment. They aren't going to learn anything useful from Ted Nolan. |

good write up. couldnt agree more on the polarizing argument. ekg comment was pretty funny too. pens are gonna be rollin with MAF for the foreseeable future... just hope when the resign him it isnt for longer than 3 years. |

Did anyone catch Elliot Friedman's segment during the Leafs game? He reports talks have begun between the Pens and Fleury on contract extension. I guess I do't have a problem with it, but I hope they sign him for less than the 5 mil cap hit he has now. |

I think Bortz will get the open spot. Might as well evaluate the guys that can't be sent down.
Speaking of Buff... Why on earth would Moulson sign a long term deal there? He's basically writing off the rest of his career because it will be at least a few years til they're competitive. If I'm a 31 year old player, winning is pretty high on my list of priorities. |

cap going up and MAF agent knows he is the biggest name out there. miller type deal is best pens can hope for 3 years 6 mil each. i hope they really puch for a 2-3 year deal and not sign a 5-6 year deal. |

He always is. One of the more overrated players out there. No power in a power forward is just a big guy on skates. Might as well go after Penner if that is what you are looking for. |

That 5 on 5 sv % chart posted in the article is horribly inaccurate. Like, not even close.
ANA - .952, not .851
TOR - 1.00, not .920
DAL - .920, not .892
Not sure why someone would make up numbers like this. |

I think the chart is mislabeled... those are his save percentages for the entire games, not just 5 on 5. |

That appears to be the case, though the Anaheim number is still wrong. (.862 vs. .851).

He's weird. He'll go through a 5 game stretch where he looks like the best power forward in the league. Hitting, scoring and fighting all comers. And then he'll go invisible for 22 games. |

I just plugged the correct numbers in and the graph looks pretty much the same. I did even strength sv%, so there is 4 on 4 data in there as well.
Funny thing about line graphs is that the scale can change how the data looks. I used the same scale as Darney, and it looks like a roller coaster.
But I change the lower limit of the scale down to zero, and it looks much less dramatic:

It's becoming more likely that MAF will resign here due to really no other options out there either FA, or trade. I think the question becomes, longer term less money, or shorter term more money? It will be in the 4.5-6mil range.
And for the record, I like MAF, but if he was a FA last season I think Halak would be our G, but there's nothing you can do about it. |

He looks like the classic guy who just "needs a change of scenery" and he'll put it together. Scary thing is that he's been through 3 organizations and 5-6 head coaches, and he still seems that way. |

I doubt with the cap increase, even on a long term deal, MAF takes less than he makes now. |

LMAO, this blog is a trainwreck of misused stats. Kind of funny if it wasn't so repetitive. |

Lies, damned lies, and statistics.
All I know is, Fleury's numbers are better than "average" so far this year, and one of the big things that have changed because of the new system is far fewer giveaways in the defensive zone, and far fewer odd man breaks allowed.
Much more sound system and it's allowing Fleury to shine. |

Megna sent down... You gotta think with a long road trip that they recall a forward on a defenseman on Tuesday (unless Bennett is healthy enough to play or be the 13th F in case of another injury) for the long road trip.
In any case, it probably doesn't matter who gets the call... I know we all want to see Harrington, etc., but listening to MJ yesterday, it doesn't seem like he'll just rotate guys in for the heck of it.
When asked about if he'd make a change to a winning lineup:
"We evaluate our lineup based on individuals. So, if we are going to make lineup changes, it's based on how a player is playing. If a player is being ineffective, and we have a player that is sitting there that can help us on a given night, we'll put that person in."
