We got to expect more from our 1st rounders.

Nicklas Jensen = Patrick White. Based on impact, no (frank)ing difference at all.

Edit: Actually, I take that back. At least Patrick White helped us get Ehrhoff.

White > Jensen.

That's not fair because Jensen, Hansen, Matthius & Lack is getting us Kane.

I'm still waiting for the Ryan Johansen sign and trade. Should be happening any minute.

Canucks are gonna surprise a lot of people this year with how good they are. I'm thinking they'll end up with somewhere between 90 - 98 points.

I think a lot of canuck fans have become accustomed to mediocrity. That's their benchmark. Why should we expect this franchise to be able to evaluate prospects accurately (we are all aware of the exceptionally poor draft record)? Why should we expect our prospects to have the tools to become impact players? Why should we expect this franchise to develop our prospects properly?

As a fan I want to expect more from my club than just mediocrity. No more excuses.

I think this is what Vantel was getting at yesterday. I agree with this whole heartedly. It can be a better team as well as a better place to play.

So is the general consensus that I should wait for Jensen to have 2 years of AHL seasoning before I can claim him a bust?

Or is it general consensus that I should (frank) off?

This team has gone downhill over the past couple of years, but for the previous years, I wouldn't say it was mediocre. Let's get some perspective. Some teams over the past decade have been better, but the Canucks have been pretty, damn good during that time. They need some work to get back to be a contender, but this has been a pretty good run. And I'm a pessimist by nature.

I would love it for the Nucks to make the playoffs , Oilers and Flames too. It is really pathetic to see what has happened to nearly all of the Canadian based teams over the past few years.

He's already had 1 and if he doesn't have a different start I don't see him changing.

Hey I'll take my lumps as a Canucks fan for having a pretty piss poor season and some disappointing post season losses but I'll take that type of pathetic over what Alberta is offering.

If I read your post correctly, I think we are talking about two things here. Team development and player current skill level.

I'm more pissed about how this team develops talent more than the players themselves. It's not Jensen's fault that he was a mid to late second rounder drafted in the first. Just another (frank) up by the canucks.

But do I need to be complacent and accepting that this franchise can't get their poop together enough to provide a stable development system or a management team that knows what it is doing?

- bloatedmosquito

I agree with what your saying. It doesn't matter how much frosting and sprinkles you put on a piece of $hit(player development, drafting) underneath all the frosting and sprinkles is still $hit. In all fairness improving things take time. That said we spend a lot of time and money supporting the team that we love. My Uncle until a few years ago was a season ticket holder from the beginning. He still follows the canucks as any would their fav team but he was also tired of mediocrity.

I'd say the smart thing to do is wait, and don't panic if he starts off slow because he's a streaky player and didn't do much offensively in pre-season so he's gonna need a goal or two in the AHL to get hot again, he's that type of player.

? I've lost you.

They don't owe us anything? Maybe you don't pay to watch your team. I did for 16 years. I paid top dollar too. Other fans in other city paid bargain basement prices for the exact same product. The fans in this city have delivered their part. It's now time for the canucks to step up and do the same.

If the only reason this team lost was because they got beaten by better teams then I would be fine with our history. That's just part of sports. But it's not. A lot of the issues surrounding this team is because of poor management. That I won't accept anymore.

Just give him a bit of time, that's all. I can't even count the number of prospects that the Leaf's shipped out prematurely that turned into solid players elsewhere.

I'm more concerned about Kassian's development this year.

Heard the lines in practice today are as follows and will be the way the season starts.

Sedin Sedin Vrbata
Higgins Bonino Burrows
Kassian Richardson Vey
Hansen Matthias Dorsett

Edler Tanev
Hamhuis Sbisa
Stanton Weber

Interesting 3rd line and the 4th is the best one we have had in years. Not sure about the 2nd but can't say I'm surprised.

I agree.

When you say good over the past decade, are you talking entertainment level, a player's personal achievement, regular season success, or playoff success?

As a season ticket holder all I can remember are the playoffs. Sure I remember an incident or two from the regular season, but it's playoff moments that brought the most enjoyment/disappointment for me as a fan.

So if we look at the playoff record over the past decade, we see 3 DNQ, 3 first round losses, 3 second round losses, and one final.

Our definition of 'good' differs.

Yeah, really only line 2 sticks out as the weak spot to me. But it's a biggie, IMO a guy like Bonino needs at least one winger that's a legit goal-scorer with skill, not two hustle guys like Burrows/Higgins.

Also interesting that they have the lefty Burrows playing RW while both Kassian/Hansen as natural RW's get moved to LW.
