Dude... The Sedins aren't leaders. IMO Hamhuis isn't either - not a fan of his pouty body language whether it's intentional or not. (I just go by who I'd respect/go to war with and I have no use for humble ppl with manners in a competition setting). Burrows is an effort leader. Bieksa is an all around leader. They can stay for now. - DrChristianTroy
They are leaders in their own way. Bieksa is the guy I would have chosen as captain initially. Now does Willie take that C and put it on Bieksa? I don't think he does. Manners don't make you a pu$$y. Leadership come in many forms. |

Yeah and those other forms should exist within the team structure. Not as the face of the franchise. I want the voice of my squad to be confident bordering on cocky, charismatic - an assertive alpha type. |

Why does there have to be an astrix?
They are either leaders or not .you are paying a hell of a lot of money ,they better be leaders. |

I agree with that but Toews doesn't come across as that he has a different type of swagger still a captain. |

Toews has the swagger of an alpha. He's a competitor. Compared to the Sedins & Hamhuis he's a GD manimal. |

It would be pretty sweet if tomorrow was July 3rd. Instead of hearing all the trade and signing rumours I could just hear how certain teams got so much better. |

You have to be an alpha to play in this league is Henrik "the" Alpha on the team. No not in my opinion. They come from a different culture. Most Europeans don't have that North American swagger. Just because your not the 1 alpha doesn't mean you aren't a leader. You want #1 Alpha on the team its Bieksa or Kesler. |

Agreed, there is certainly a different culture/dynamic as concerns European players, one that is oftentimes misunderstood and mistakenly labelled as passionless. Just because a player isn't 'rah rah rah', it doesn't mean they don't make a good leader. Not only that, but I feel that most good teams have a leadership group - some lead by example, some lead by being vocal. It's good to have a mix of players that can reflect that leadership in various ways.
Toews is certainly one of the best Captains in the league and someone who will put the team on his back if that's what is needed. The guy is simply a winner and has been at all levels. That said, he also doesn't strike me as one of these loud-mouthed 'rah rah' types. Which just demonstrates that often it's the quiet but steady leadership as well as what you do on the ice that exemplifies what a leader should be about.
On a side note, there is no way that I would want Miller or Bolland. If either of these end up on the Canucks I will personally camp out in front of Linden's house and engage in lewd acts with my latex 'companion' (yes, Sheneequa) |

Want to see leadership separate itself in a room FULL of alphas? Study the Seahawks. That's what I want in the Canucks dressing room. I would bully the (frank) out of the Sedins in the workplace (partly because I'm an bumhole & partly because they pretty much ask for it). I can't even fathom following guys like them in any setting - let alone professional sports. |

I don't think we move forward with Bolland ,Miller ,or Hiller unless Beatle John gives his Okie Dokey first

One of the things I really liked in the Desjardins interview was he wants the team to play North to South and not a cycle game. That will be huge |

Were Yzerman and Sakic the alpha leaders on their teams? Don't think so. Henrik is a leader by work ethic and commitment to excellence. He gets respect from other players around the league, and was one of the top iron men in the league till this year, incredibly tough.
Whether Henrik is the captain or not is not the problem with this team.
I've worked for leaders that are "alpha's" and leaders that are "leaders by earned respect." I know which I would rather work hard for. |

Sedins aren't even capable of playing that style. Should be interesting... |

Exactly. We can't blame the third coach. Time for the players to adapt. |

Guys like Burrows and Kassian will thrive. I'm not counting the chickens before they hatch though. |

Not sure what else the NYRs have to offer, but Rick Nash (north/south prototype) is an underproducing misfit in AV's system & makes enough that fitting both Sedins onto their cap shouldn't be a problem after the Brad B!tchards buyout. |
