So Ek has a 50% possibility of Steve Ott coming to the Flyers in his rumor chart? What do you guys think? Likely? Not likely?
Hextall is such an unknown! - FlyersGrace
Well, my very rudimentary analysis draws the same conclusion.
He either will or he won't. (S5) |

I feel confident that the Flyers may or may not sign free agents this offseason. Also, it is entirely possible that they may trade players and/or draft picks for other players and/or draft picks. (j5) |

I would much rather have a fringe NHL player who excels on defense like an Adam Hall. That way, if Laughton wins the job, you don't have to hold him back because you're paying a 4th line player $2.5M for 3 years. - PhillySportsGuy
Yeah. Paying a 4th liner that kind of scratch could be a disaster. Especially since they already have a 4th liner making 4.5 for 4 years. |

During the 4 years they played together, Carter had 264 points and Briere had 218 points. Carter was the much better defensive player too. - PhillySportsGuy
I didn't say Carter sucked. I'm saying Briere was the more important player.
When it comes to defensive forwards you couldn't set the bar much lower than Briere. Carter was never a back checking demon either. He could skate back into plays but had no idea what to do when he got there. |

To continue the distaste for local media's preoccupation with the former Flyers on the Kings. Richards and Carter were the centerpiece here. As important as either is in LA, neither compares remotely with Kopitar, Quick, or Doughty in importance. Being more mature physically and emotionally and being complementary instead of central figures can look good on a player. - bodiva88
I just try and ignore most of the local media, they are just clueless.
Thank God for Bill, he often reminds me of Jay Greenberg and that is a HUGE compliment in my book!!

Just can't see Hextall signing a checking center on the downside of his career. The only way I see Ott remotely being considered is if we trade VL and Schenn in separate deals.

It's nice when you have Rangers fans around the office. I don't even have to say anything. I walked into the breakroom and just smiled.

I can sign on for that. - johndewar
I live in LA currently and the one thing I know for a fact about Hextall as a Assistant GM is that he WILL NOT ruin a player by rushing his Development. And looking at Voynov, Quick, and some of the other LA call ups. That mentallity pays off. |

Briere was definitely a more important player in the playoffs. He was playing at a Conn Smythe level in 2010. The guy was a liability on defense, but when the stakes were highest, you knew one team was going to score when he was out there. And during both 2008 and 2010, it was usually his line. |

How do you know they wouldn't have been just as good earlier? Maybe they'd be better now with more NHL experience. |

The local media sure is pushing the ex Flyer angle today.
Hey lets undo the trades. And you tell me which team is still playing for a cup and which one doesn't make the playoffs?
I'm positive Richards 10 goals would have been much better for us than Simmonds 29 and Schenn's 20.
Ill say it here, if you complain about Richard's and Carter's success as if it has anything to do with the Flyers NOT being successful, you are a whiney female dog and need to be slapped. You know nothing about hockey, and need to go follow water polo and watch a Downton Abbey marathon.
I actually love waterpolo - KINGKENZO
So do I, water polo is insane. I just couldn't come up with anything else at the moment because I was still angry after reading the article that pissed me off.

You could easily argue that Briere was one of the top three instead of Carter that year. EASILY... - mayorofangrytown

The best three guys on 2010 Flyers--Carter, Richards, Pronger
The best three guys on 2014 Kings--Kopitar, Quick, Doughty - bodiva88
That Cup run was fun, but it seems people tend to forget that team was pretty mediocre and elevated by one Chris Pronger.
A good example of what life might have been like if they had kept that core intact was the post-'06 Oilers... they didn't pull the plug on that young core until after missing the PO's for 3-4 seasons straight... in hindsight, I bet they wish they would have unloaded them for the kind of haul Homer got, instead of slavishly sticking with them despite ample evidence that they weren't good enough to carry the load w/o Pronger. |

Fun fact: Water Polo (and Squash) are the two sports the school I work at is known best for. Apparently we've produced some olympic caliber athletes in both of those sports. Don't ask about our Ice Hockey team. |

In the regular season, Carter was a better player than Briere. Briere was better in the playoffs.
To me, the core four of that generation was Timo, Pronger, Carter and Richards. They were relied upon to do the heavy lifting. They saw the tough match ups, played on the pk and still produced a lot of offense.
Briere scored and was a clutch player in the playoffs, but he didn't have to handle the difficult match ups. - PhillySportsGuy

I don't. I was responding because I have people who are casual observers in my life to address me on this in the elevator or kitchen for a little sports chat and this is the kind of thing I come up with instead of punching them in the face, which would be bad for my career. |

Stoll and Hemsky were once considered franchise players.
