I wonder if they actually believe their stupidity or just like to hear themselves whine? Is there a conflict with MSG?
- stevens87

Looking at the venues, there are definitely some conflicts with both MSG and Consol. MSG has stuff on the 8th, 9th & 13th, and Consol on the 3rd, 8th & 10th.

Unless you go the other way and make the series really spread out, they sorta did what they have to do.

Agree

Also, glad Minnesota won the series. They were the better team during that seven games and to me, it wasn't that close.

What changes do people envision in SJ?

Man... what do you do if you are San Jose now? I think you obviously have to change coaches, but will that really change anything. You have a core of good players, all locked up for a while, but that core can't seem to win.

I was thinking something like 30 - 40%. Would have been ugly, but hey, Tanner Glass can block shots.

Up close to the cap and have some RFAs that need to be resigned (Wingels and Demers), I can see maybe Neimi being dealt if Stalock is ready to be the man. Buyout Havlat? Not resign Boyle?

I'll take Wingels if they don't have room. He would look great on the Pens 3rd line. I've always liked his game

The funny part is they took Kennedy off our hands to add depth and didn't play him

Well I was told on here that Mclellan is a big corsi fenwick chart reading guy, might help for someone to pay more attention to watching the the game.

How big can he be if he dresses Mike Brown over Havlat and Kennedy in a game 7?

Even though they just extended them, I think you have to look at moving Thornton and/or Marleau too... Something needs shaken up there, and they have a good young core. Drastic, but maybe new coach and new leadership group for a fresh start? I don't know...

I don't know... I feel bad for Sharks fans.

When I asked if people thought NHL coaches pay attention to fancy stats(which I assume the look at them, but put very little stock into them) the response was Mclellan does, and Carlyle doesn't. Obviously at the time Carlyle's team was going down in flames and Mclellan's was one of the best in the NHL. Just thought it was funny that now Mclellan's team just blew a 3-0 lead. I really don't know if either likes them or not.

I agree. Good fan base. I saw someone post a picture of Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown. It's kind of like that.

Interesting comment by new Flames GM Brad Treliving on Marek vs Wyshynski the other day, basically saying that teams are lying when they talk about analytics and what they use, because they don't want to let other teams know what they are doing.

given how often negative possession players (i'm looking at you craig adams) are put over boards to protect leads, one wonders what the Pens' coaching staff looks at--never mind what goes through the minds of Carlye or McClellan

And you wonder how much is used by coaches versus GM's.

It's hard to envision many moneyballers haunting the halls of very many NHL front offices where old school is the only school in town.

Negative possession is not always reflective of a player being bad. It all depends on usage. If you are playing the best of the best and never starting in the offensive zone, you can understand a guy being under 50%.

In Craig Adams case he is facing very weak competition and still struggling, that is a major problem.

Player usage charts are a favorite tool of mine.

There was an article a while back somewhere about one of the analytics companies about how the Pens used them to draw numbers before they made the Gogo for Nisky & Neal deal and how they were one of the first and few to transition to using a data crunching company to decide personnel moves. And how (I think) they also had used them in free agency/contract negotiations once or twice after that.

There are some moneyball-types in the league, and with the Pens right now. How widespread it is or is becoming is an entirely different question.

Adam's was the one that came to my mind because there is no hiding his numbers. Given how bad he is on the charts, it's baffling to see him out in big situations.

i remember reading that article. I thought it was fascinating because it was such anti-establishment approach. I don't recall where it was either. Kevin Allen, maybe?
