This is not compelling statistical evidence
- BulliesPhan87

Lets just say Philly's rep is well earned and leave it at that. But if you need empirical (if not statistical) data, here's what a simple Google search turned up:

http://bleacherreport.com...n-american-by-gq-magazine

http://www.phillymag.com/...-run-threats-eagles-fans/

http://www.nydailynews.co...-beat-n-article-1.1001211

http://bleacherreport.com...lphia-sports-fans-moments (truth be told, I can't fault them for booing Sarah Palin)

http://pittsburgh.cbsloca...ing-flyersrangers-game-6/

I'm sorry, but you just don't see this level of violence and consistent level of general douchebaggery from fans of other cities. That doesn't mean all of you are jerks, you just have a much higher % then other places.

With Pittsburgh being the better five on five team and having the deeper defense, why are people afraid of the Flyers?
They are not even beating the Rangers at even strength and it is actually a big advantage for the Rangers right now. Looking at the team from back in 12 to know, there are a lot of differences. Remember Crosby Dupuis and Sullivan trying to cycle with no physicality what so ever on that line?
Or how about engelland and Michalek trying to play our system?
This team is not at the flyers mercy and yah, they beat us majority of the games this season, but that doesnt mean squat.

If nothing whatsoever occurred between the whistles, I'd been fine with the Flyers match-up. This Pens team hasn't proven to me that they have the discipline to stay away from the between whistle scrums that Philly loves and uses to get the Pens off their games. Besides, its much more fun hearing Rangers fans whine about how we get all the PP's.

Let's just say, while our reputation is not entirely unearned, it's overblown because people love narratives

oh, right, and leave it at that.

Narratives "like Crosby is a whiner?" that kind of narrative?

See my edit above. Like I said, its well earned. You might as well just own it.

cherry picking, anecdotal evidence, confirmation bias, bleacher report (seriously, might as well use myspace posts)

Sorry my friend, I don't think you are going to change many minds here. The evidence might be anecdotal, but even you would have to admit that there sure is a mountain of it .As for usuing Bleacher Report, what can I say? The position paper that I wanted to download from the Journal of Applied Sciences was password restricted!

hmmm to me it seems like it would be a poor indicator in a small sample size like this one, especially in a series format against one team... For example Hanks EVSV is significantly higher than his overall SV%, and this could easily be explained with the flyers having a great PP and the rangers have controlled the puck even strength.

Hank hasn't played well this series at all, not that he has looked terrible. Still... he has played closer to the 91.0% the overall shows, then the 95.7% the EVSV shows.

When I see those stats I see it showing more of the matchup between these two teams, and how powerful the flyers PP has been, and to me it makes even less sense to look at Fleury's EVSV going into a matchup against the flyers, when we know how important fleury's ability to make big saves on the PK will be.

I'm not saying you're totally wrong, as i'm in no way a stats guru, just my two cents.

- TheGreatGiroux

It's an extremely small sample size but I still favor EVSV% as a better indicator of how a goalie is playing. Shorthanded save percentages are all over the map year to year even amongst the elite at the position while EVSV% is stable.

all tactics heavily drawn from to create the "crosby is the biggest whiner in the world" manifesto.

I've been to a few Metal shows in Philly, and a ton of metal shows elsewhere. Lets just say the classlessness isn't reserved to sports fans its just Philly in general.

The Rangers are just imposing their will on the Flyers tonight. The only Flyer fighting back is Mason.

Rags are all over them. Mason keeping them in it. Should be 4-0 at least. If I were NY I wouldn't feel to comfortable yet. Philly is going to get a push going at some point.

Still don't understand why Holmgren signed Streit and MacDonald to long term deals.

In the Flyers comments a Flyer fan complimented Zucarello for a hell of a pass and another fan commented "Stop, there is only one team out there".

I tend to agree. They are in blue and they are stomping on the Flyers.

He didn't watch a lot of Islander games.

I noticed on one play the puck cycled back to Streit who on a clean breakout could have put it on a platter for Giroux with a full head of steam and gap advantage over the Rangers, but he fumbled it to the far boards.

I only saw the second period on, by based on what I've seen if not for Mason it would be 5-0

It's the Rags. They the first was a crap shoot and the second was nothing but New York.
