So Toews benefits a lot from starting in the offensive zone as opposed to the defensive zone? |

I'd say that's a big factor in having the most 5v5 points. |

Over the last few years I've been preaching that Travis Zajac is not only criminally underrated, but one of the better two-way forwards in the league. Due to him not being an elite producer in terms of offense, a lot of that has fallen on deaf ears.
He's not considered a top two-way player because he isn't as productive offensively. Better linemates, Devils' not scoring much, etc all matters, but until he produces consistently much like he did the second half of the year, he won't be in that top tier. |

Anyone see Edmonton trading the third overall?
Wouldn't it being something to get the 3rd overall for Larsson, 2014 1st and 3rd? |

Why do people want to trade Larsson.
I question if these people are conscious or not. |

Todd Cordell: How Does Travis Zajac Compare to 2013-14 Selke Candidates? - Todd.Cordell
He's certainly been great in my keeper pool (I also have Henrique who looks to be back on track after his regression in 2012. He's also flown under the radar and I wouldn't be surprised if he fully breaks out offensively in the next few years (given he's still only 24)
Edit: not to mention his great PK work |

I would also consider putting short handed TOI into the comparison, because you would probably agree that playing down a man is a bit harder than playing at 5v5 and someone like Toews, who averages the least amount of time SH of the 4 mentioned has "easier" shifts than the other 3.
Nothing against Toews but just looking at the numbers, I don't think he deserves to be up for the Selke over some other guys, but because of his name he gets the pass |

You can't trade your pick this year. Part of the agreement of NHL giving it back. It would have to be your 2nd, 3rd, let's Larsson and somebody other prospect. |

Same here. It's like, since he's not a superstar at 21, he's clearly a bust, so we should trade him. Nevermind that if he is a bust, no one will want him. People were saying the same thing about Hedman at this stage in his development. |

As long as we're playing by deboer's system and playing through lou's defense first mentality, all of our players will put up low offensive numbers. Idk about you guys but I'm hoping we spend some cash on stastny and Callahan this off season along with calling up boucher for a full year. Hopefully dump ryder and Salvador for a 7th rounder lol. But based on the topic of zajac, I liked his play this year and was satisfied with his two way play. |

It would make our team a lot better with Statsny and Cally, but I think Colorado will resign Stats, and if Cally wants the money, his best bet would be in Tampa because of the no taxes on it. |

Cause if you were Larsson would you resign here long term? Or tell Lou to go (frank) himself sign somewhere else and stick it to us for the rest of your career. If I'm him Lou and Devils can go (frank) themselves. |

lets face it, Vanek will re-up in Montreal after a nice playoff run that he hasn't had in forever, Stastny will be re-signed by Colorado because he's a huge piece of their team.. and they're young with promise, Moulson will be brought back to MN because Vanek will be in Montreal.. which leaves Cam. That's about it, or we explore trades for Kane, Eberle etc.
MUST sign Schneider.
MUST sign Jagr.
REALLY should dump Ryder, Salvador, Volchenkov. |

Bottom line with Travis is yes he is good but he should of had another 10 goals at least this year with all the chances he had. Jagr was putting pucks on a platter for him all year sure they where missing that third guy but isn't like he got Henrique linemates and was stuck with Ryder basically the entire season he did pretty much exclusively skate with Jagr. He had the opportunities to produce more he just didn't. |

Larsson is far from a bust. Larsson has tons of potential and value and his attributes are a bit repetitive in that we have both Severson (RHD) and Merrill (LHD) who are highly regarded defensemen. Gelinas is a pure PP specialist and has single handedly improved our PP, especially with the putrid offense up front. Trading Larsson does not mean he is a bust, it simply is trading value for value. So to acquire a Kane or a relatively young top 6 forward, you would have to trade someone of good value. Larsson is good value.
|
|
|
|
There's no sense in trading Larsson. I think people forget just how young he is. Defenseman take time to develop.
Gelinas is still awful in his own zone, but he is a lot better than he was two years ago. A little patience with all of these guys will pay off very well for the next 15 years.
That being said, if you ever have the chance to acquire Patrik Kane or Eric Staal, you do it.
Kane can do all the same things that Kovalchuk did and Staal is an incredible presence down low with a great shot.
After losing Parise and Kovalchuk, I wouldn't be surprised if either of those two guys were made a priority. |
