A "what have you done for me lately" guy like yourself would have been calling for Thornton and Marleau's heads if you were a SJ fan after one of their multiple early exits.
- Nucker101

Precisely my hypothetical which I mentioned earlier - Vantel would be calling for Thornton, Marleau, Boyle and maybe Niemi's heads - I just think San Jose was in a very similar position a few years ago as the Canucks are currently in.

Yet you will note that cooler heads prevailed, and the core remains the same, although galvanized by an injection of a few younger players. Seems very familiar to the Canucks current situation and indicates that re-tooling rather than outright blowing things up/rebuilding works.

Precisely what the Canucks need to do, change out some of the stale role players like Higgins and Hansen and top six forwards like Kesler and Burrows.

Who did Thorton fight a couple of years back right off the face off to try to lead his team in the playoffs. Who was the last person Henrik fought ,ever? Little sisters don't count.

We will see how many fans call for the twins head when they score 50 pts next year.

It was Getzlaf, and just how many Cups did that win for him? Don't get me wrong I love how Joe plays the game and leads. That said, Henrik is a world class player, the Canucks are nothing without him and Daniel. There's no Pavelski or Couture to replace them like San Jose has.

Ya ya I know they had bad years last year, doesn't negate the fact the team is the Oilers without them, I defintely don't want that.

If they score 60 plus I'll be extremely happy. Look at the list of players with 60 to 69 points this year, it's a pretty impressive list.

just what the (frank) does a player have to do to impress you? Skate fast and fight and he's a winner? Marleau has 30 plus goals in seven of the last eight FULL seasons. Teams need those players!!

Agreed, the San Jose has done a very good job of mixing veterans with youth and spreading them out throughout the line up. Having a 40 goal scorer as your 3rd centre in the playoffs is ridiculous!

yeah but a what have you don't for me lately guy like myself at the beginning of last year who predicted the season demise , you laughed at. I said before the NTC for Edler kicked in I led the charge that Canucks should trade him for Simmonds and YOU even had the balls to laugh at me when we played the Flyers and said remember when certain posters here tried to get us to trade for Simmonds. You mocked that suggestion and laughed at Simmonds skill level.

I suggested the Sedins and BUrrows at the beginning of the year were on their way down . I even wrote a blog on it. Everyone told me I was crazy. I said the Canucks would finish 7 to 9 th while most laughers saying they would finish 3 rd.

You know everything and I know nothing .

Research history my friend and go back to West Coast Express and see the demise of the core back then, Things changed when they got rid of Morrison Nazzy and Burt.

The same thing needs to happen now. This core is beyond stale.

Since when in the history of hockey annals, has one fight ever made the difference in terms of the outcome of the series.....

The Sedins need to be transitioned into 2nd line players. Hopefully, trading Kesler and a Dman can help expedite that process.

You need a wide range of players to win it all, toughness comes in many forms. For every wussy like Mike Bossy you need a Bob Nystrom I agree, but you still need Bossy to win....if you know what I mean.

Never said you know nothing, doubt anyone here has always been right even 90% of the time. I was actually cool with trading Edler. I definitely underestimated Simmonds. No one could have predicted all of these injuries, Luongo getting traded mid-season. Most of us had this team going out in the first round even if we did have them making the playoffs. Don't think anyone here said that this team isn't on the decline. I still expect the Sedins to be at 60 points each again next season(if healthy).

We all want change at this point. But the Sedins aren't going anywhere, whether me or you want them to or not. I'm with DCT though, I don't exactly love Henrik as captain.

Problem being there's no one coming to take that away from them. San Jose and Boston have very balanced line-ups. You can't really tell the difference between their first and second lines.

Yup.

Danny Briere, a small French dude is pretty good in the playoffs. Can't just look at the size and hockeyfights.com history, some guys want to win badly and go all out but aren't the biggest or toughest players.

Are you serious? you're saying that moment in time was the reason the Canuck's ultimately lost? as opposed to the crazy amount of Canuck injuries, the way the officials suddenly put away their whistles, and of course the worst time for Luo to have a couple of meltdowns. Come on!!

I agree, even if Marchand didn't do that, the Canucks were going to lose that series. It's an embarrassing moment, but overblown.

I know the Sedins are going nowhere ,it pisses me off. They will get all the prime icetime and we will be in the McDavid sweeps next year. Sooner or later someone will see all the core needs to go.

Kesler and Edler(if he has any decent value) is a start.
